Just before Kaelyn was born we received a Baby Signing Time DVD at a baby shower. I was thrilled. As a former early childhood educator and through education classes in college, I had seen this work first hand and knew it would be perfect for our little one. There are so many wonderful benefits of sign language with young children...even babies! By the time Kaelyn was 3 months old we started to introduce her to this great series! Very early on we noticed her using signs like eat, more, and milk. As time went on she began using more and more signs....cracker, diaper, potty, dog, etc.

Baby Signing Time was a fantastic way to instill confidence and security and helped us communicate with her in a way which allowed for fewer instances of frustration on her part when she was feeling she couldn't tell us what she needed. The biggest difference though...was the way it helped to stimulate early learning, her vocabulary, and language skills. She began saying words at a very early age and was using two words and more to make sentences shortly after she turned a year old. After the very positive experience we've had with Kaelyn, I know without a doubt it's something we'll do with this next baby as well. I think signing is a terrific communication tool and one more parents should consider! For those who aren't familiar with Baby Signing Time...it's a collection of DVD's that makes learning signs fun through music, animation and real babies under the age of two signing!

I am SO excited because the wonderful people behind Signing Time have offered one of my readers a Baby Signing Time Volume 1 & 2 + CDs Giftset (a $59.99 value)!!! This set is perfect for kids as young as 3 months old and up to 3 years old!

This Giveaway is now CLOSED! Thanks to all who entered! With our second baby I am bound and determined to come up with a solution that helps us to successfully swaddle him/her. With Kaelyn it didn't matter how hard I tried...it seemed that she always came loose. I couldn't figure out a good solution to this problem. After some searching recently, I came across the Miracle Blanket and boy do I wish I had one of these with Kaelyn! A true swaddling blanket, designed to help babies sleep better and reduce fussiness...who could ask for anything more?!? What I think is so great about this blanket is there are no knots, buttons, straps, Velcro, snaps, or zippers. Truly one of a kind with it's design and ease of use. After only a few easy steps (shown here on their website), anyone can swaddle their baby and keep them swaddled!

Their website is packed full of information for parents informing them of the benefits of the Miracle Blanket (stops colic, reduces fussiness, helps baby sleep better, and helps baby sleep just to name a few) as well as testimonials from other Mom's who have tried and loved the Miracle Blanket and the benefits it provides for both baby and Mom. When you're baby is getting a good night's sleep...so is Mom! That's why I'm thinking I need to have several of these on hand. With a little one laundry is done often...and I know I will want many to ensure that there is always one clean to use.

Buy It: You can purchase the Miracle Blanket for $29.95 with a variety of colors to choose from! A Mommy Must-have for any Mommy...whether it's for you or maybe a gift for someone else!

How To Enter To Win: The people behind Miracle Blanket have generously offered a Miracle Blanket to one of my readers in the color of their choice! New OFF! Products Review

Posted by Jenna | Friday, May 22, 2009

Summer is quickly approaching, and here where we live that means mosquitoes! Yuck! I have to admit that although I enjoy the warmer weather during the summer months....mosquitoes can often times ruin my wanting to be outdoors. Having a toddler now though has me thinking differently. She LOVES to be outdoors, and that means my hubby and I have to be outdoors too. It's fun to watch her play and to spend time with her. I want to be enjoy all those times we will have to spend outdoors as a family this summer...and that's why I was thrilled to have the opportunity to try the new OFF! Products: OFF! Clip-on Mosquito Repellent and the OFF! PowerPad Lamp from BzzAgent.

We don't have a lot of mosquitoes out yet...but as we were outside at the beginning of the week we did notice a couple. I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to try my new OFF! products. I thought they worked rather well. I have to say that the OFF! Clip-on was probably my favorite. It was just so easy to use, and it goes wherever you go. So when I'm running around the yard with Kaelyn...there it is with me the whole time. I enjoyed the OFF PowerPad Lamp as well....the only downfall is that it stays put. It's good for those nights when we sit out on our patio as a family. The nice thing about it is that although it doesn't move, it does repel up to a 15 ft x 15 ft area....that's quite a bit. What I appreciated about both was that I didn't have to apply the spray to my skin or clothing. I also didn't notice a chemical odor which was nice as well....as typically that is something gives me a headache right away! My hubby liked them so much that he's actually wanting to take them to work with him! He works in agriculture and is outside a lot...so this would be perfect...especially the OFF! Clip-on.

You can learn more about these OFF! Products and how they can protect you from mosquitoes without having to spray anything all over you! I think it's definitely worth checking out....especially as mosquito weather nears and will be here before we know it!

Piggy Paint Review

Posted by Jenna | Friday, May 22, 2009

With Summer nearing and sandal weather in sight, I see more and more little girls with their fingernails and toes painted! I think it's simply adorable! I have always thought it would be fun to paint Kaelyn's little piggies....but have never brought myself to buy the polish as I stop short thinking about the toxic chemicals in nail polishes and how I don't want those being put on my little girl! I do my best to live as "green" as possible. That's why I was thrilled when I was recently introduced to an eco-friendly nail polish called Piggy Paint (their motto actually being "Natural as Mud")!! It's kid-friendly, non-toxic, free of harsh chemicals like formaldehyde, phthalates, biphenyl A, ethyl acetate and acetone, and it's odorless!! How great is that?!? Made from water and other natural ingredients, I am comforted to know that this is not only safe to use on my daughter's little piggies, but it's also safe for the environment!!

When my sample of the Girls Rule Piggy Paint arrived, I was very excited to use it and see if it lived up to the great advertisements I've read. Lets just say I was more than impressed! I have always been VERY sensitive to chemical smells of all kinds...so the fact that this Piggy Paint is truly odorless was wonderful! I wasn't sure how Kaelyn would do having her little nails painted for the first time, but she did great!! The fingernail polish dried fairly quickly, and even with 1-2 coats looked very vibrant! She walked around looking down at her toes with a big smile on her face!

We were also sent their nail polish remover....also eco-friendly, non-toxic, and made from natural ingredients! It was great knowing that not only the polish that I used was safe for my daughter, but the nail polish remover was as well! It worked very well in removing the Piggy Paint quickly and safely!

I have been wanting to paint her nails for quite some time, and I have to say it was a lot of fun knowing that the products we were using were non-toxic and safe! It was great bonding time, and as the Piggy Paint website points out....Piggy Paint can be used as a learning tool to help children in learning their colors, patterns, and even developing those fine motor skills!

I would strongly recommend Piggy Paint to anyone who is looking for a non-toxic and safer option to paint those little fingers and toes in your life (even great for adults too)! The product works as it says it will...and more than anything....it gives parents peace of mind to know that we are using the safest products with our children as possible!

Buy It: You can buy Piggy Paint right there on their website. You'll find 13 fun vibrant colors, 9 gift packs and their non-toxic nail polish remover.

But wait!! Now through June 30, 2009, enter BALANCE15L (a coupon code just for A Mom's Balancing Act readers) at Piggy Paint and you will save 15% on any of their items, including sale items!! Also, if you spend $25 or more, shipping is free!!

Also...don't forget to checkout the other giveaways I have going on and keep your eye out for more great giveaways to come!

Giveaway has ended! Thanks to all who entered! I don't know about you, but chocolate is definitely one of my weaknesses when it comes to sweet foods. I know it's said by many that a little chocolate isn't bad for us in moderation....but seeing how it's not the healthiest choice, especially while pregnant...I try not to give into those cravings all the time. The thing is, now I might just be able to!! How you ask?

When Celebrate Life Nutrition contacted me to review samples of their Celebrate Chocolate Truffles I was absolutely thrilled! Not only because it's chocolate of course, but because there aren't any preservatives, no artificial coloring, no MSG or chemicals in their Celebrate Truffles. They partnered with Life's DHA to add Omega-3/DHA in them as well. A chocolate that is delicious, uses only premium cocoa and natural plant oils and is healthy for me...wow!!

If you take a look around on their website, you'll find that they're not only healthy for you...but they can actually help you to lose weight! Yep...finally a chocolate that helps you to keep your cravings under control by satisfying your hunger with just one or two truffles. After trying them, I can tell you that not only are they delicious (I didn't really have a favorite, they were all great!)...but they really do help to control your appetite, even before your hungry. Eating one or two, 20 minutes or so before a meal really does help to satisfy your hunger.

A little bit of information about Celebrate Chocolate from their website:

  • Satisfies your hunger - with rich, never bitter, rare cocoa from an ancient recipe
  • Cuts your cravings - with quickly absorbed nutrients that deliver quick satisfaction
  • Maximizes your nutrition - with concentrated nutrients from 59 whole foods
  • Increases your Omega 3/DHA - it feeds your heart and brain these vital nutrients
  • Boosts your antioxidants - with premium cocoa delivering superb natural antioxidants

More about Celebrate Chocolate can be found on their website as well as the opportunity to purchase their chocolates to try for yourself!!! Aside from the healthy aspect of these chocolates, I found them to be quite delicious. I enjoyed the different tastes offered as well as the textures.

What's best is that Celebrate Life Nutrition is offering one of my readers a sample pack (2 boxes) of their own!!

I happened to come across a great promotion from Tombstone over at Mommies With Cents! Tombstone is willing to pay $15 towards your utility bill! Who wouldn't want that...especially with these hot temps coming, right?!! I know I would!

The details about this promotion, as well as the rebate form can be found over at KraftFoods! Click here for a direct link.

Giveaway is now CLOSED! Thanks to all who entered! At the "learning to be more independent" age of 18 months, our daughter Kaelyn is really getting the hang of using a fork and spoon at meal time! It's fun to see her practicing and learning to eat like a big girl. As she begins to master this developmental milestone I realized how much easier it would be for her if we had a plate that would not move while she scooped her food from it.

That's why I was absolutely thrilled when Alicia from The Soft Landing offered to send me one of the Boon products they offer to review! It's the Boon Saucer Stay-Put Divided Plate (which comes in white/pink or white/orange)!! I have used other stay put plates in the past and have not had much success with them. So, although excited, I must admit that I was a little leery at the same time and wondering if this product would be much better. Thankfully though, Boon lived up to it's great reputation of having quality products and completely impressed me with this plate! Not only did it stay put with the slip resistant base, even when Kaelyn tried to pick it up and move it, but it also has divided sections on it that are perfectly shaped to help making scooping out her food easier. The fact that it's dishwasher safe and BPA-free, Phthalate-free, and PVC-free is also wonderful....as you know when using this product that it's safe to use with your children!

The Soft Landing is a family owned store and offers all things safe and healthy for families. All products offered on their site are free of BPA, Phthalates and PVC. Alicia Voorhies decided to give families a safer alternative to the products being offered out there and I'm so glad she did! What a great site this is. They have everything from dishes and utensils to bath toys and teethers. I appreciate the large selection of items they have to offer, and am comforted to know that they are all safe for my family! Not only that...but their prices are remarkable! For example, the Boon Saucer Stay-Put Divided Plate is only $5.90! For the quality and usability of this item....I'd say that's pretty amazing!

Thanks to The Soft Landing you can not only find terrific products at amazingly low prices...but Alicia, with The Soft Landing, has also generously offered to give one of my readers a Boon Saucer Stay-Put Divided Plate!!

How To Enter To Win: All you have to do is visit The Soft Landing, take a look around, then come back and leave a comment with the name of another product they carry that you liked. (This initial entry is required before any of the extra entries will be counted)

Thankful Thursday

Posted by Jenna | Thursday, May 14, 2009

As I woke up this morning to the ultrasound picture lying on my nightstand that was taken yesterday (Yep! I'm pregnant with our second baby!!:)), I was reminded of the many blessings I have in my life to be thankful for! We couldn't be happier about our growing family and the soon to be arrival of our new addition in November!! What a blessing children are from the Lord. Kaelyn has been such a joy in our lives and we can't wait to meet this baby too!!

At 18 1/2 months old, Kaelyn doesn't quite understand what's going on or that she's going to soon be a Big Sister in just a matter of months. However, she does know that there's a baby in Mommy's tummy that she likes to kiss throughout the day! We find her walking around the house rocking her arms from one side to the other and saying "baby" (learned from the Baby Signing Time series no doubt :)). She also was fascinated with the ultrasound pictures and immediately said "baby". I thought that was really neat!

We decided to tell our parents and families a couple of months ago, shortly after we found out, and did so by having Kaelyn walk into the room with her "I'm Going To Be A Big Sister" shirt on. It was quite the surprise for everyone and such an exciting time. As you can see in the picture...Kaelyn was pretty excited too! She knew something big was going on. We always do something special when telling our parents the exciting news! With Kaelyn we did a really neat poem and with this one we decided to do the shirt. I have to mention on a side note, that in looking around for a Big Sister Shirt, I found the best quality and deals at Cafe Press. Not only that...but Cafe Press is connected with Ebates, a great site to shop through and receive money back on your orders. I was so excited to find out that I would not only get money back for my purchase by going through Ebates, but a whopping 10%!! That's pretty good when you consider that most stores are less than 5%.

It's a very exciting time in our lives and we have much to be thankful for, that's for sure!!

My giveaways can always be found towards the top in the right-hand column!

And, The winner is....

Comment #4 Noreen Says: "My Name is...." Personalized Book, I like the name spelled out in nature. I would have it made for my youngest if I won.

GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED! THANKS TO ALL WHO ENTERED! Who doesn't love seeing their name personalized on something?! Especially children, but I have to say as an adult I love it just as much!! I enjoy finding personalized items for our daughter Kaelyn, but at times it can be difficult. Kaelyn, although a well known name by many, is not a name you find on many pre-personalized items found in stores like Walmart or Target. No...Kaelyn is a name that, when personalized, must be ordered specificially. I actually think this is quite fun, as I enjoy browsing the web for great personalized products for her!

Recently I was introduced to I See Me!, a site which offers lots of great personalized children's gifts. Although there are many, two of my favorites would have to be the My Very Own Name and My Very Own Fairy Tale books. Not only do I appreciate these personalized books because they help children build self esteem as they are introduced to letter recognition, spelling and reading....but also because the quality and beauty of these books. I have to say, after looking at their site, I was very impressed!!

My Very Own Name stuck out to me as a great keepsake gift for any toddler, newborn to age 8. It's bright colors and unique storyline of adorable animals spelling out a child's first and last name is one that any child would love! It would be wonderful for any animal lover, as it also includes an illustrated encyclopedia of 61 animals and fun facts about each! A Virtual Tour of this book can be found here.

My Very Own Fairy Tale is a great one for little girls, newborn to age 12! She is taken to a magical garden where she is crowned as princess! As a little girl I would have been thrilled to be the princess in my very own fairy tale!! What girl wouldn't?!! The beautiful illustrations of this book caught my eye immediately! I think this book was absolutely adorable and would be a great way to let that special little girl in your life know how special she is. A Virtual Tour of this book can be found here.

I am so thankful to Maia Haag, the author of these books, for taking time to create such meaningful and educational books for young children that will truly be a cherished memory for a lifetime! She is a busy mom like many of us who had an appreciation for personalized items and, along with her husband Allen Haag, had a vision and desire to provide the highest quality of personalized children's books out there. That dream transpired into what is now I See Me!

To Buy It: You can purchase these books for $29.95 each over at I See Me! Children and parents will equally enjoy and appreciate the quality and uniqueness of these products. In fact, if you order the My Very Own Name or the My Very Own Fairy Tale book by May 25th, you will have the opportunity to take part in a fantastic promotion going on called "Signed By The Author" where your book will automatically be signed by the author herself!

To Enter To Win: I See Me! has generously offered one of my readers the book of their choice...either the My Very Own Name book or My Very Own Fairy Tale. To enter, all you have to do is: Visit I See Me! and leave me a comment letting me know another personalized item they offer that you would like. (This is initial entry is required before any of the extra entries will be counted).
