LunchboxReviews.com Review & Oompa Toys $25 GC Giveaway!

Posted by Jenna | Friday, October 29, 2010

When it comes to toys and children's products, times have sure changed since I was a child. Although there are still simple, non-battery operated toys out there like the ones I grew up with...I have come to realize and appreciate that with technology has come many great educational opportunities for my kids as well...specifically through applications for young children using iPods, iPhones, and iPads!

Milanie Cleere, owner of Oompa Toys, had this same realization. She prefers natural toys, but realized over time that there are many educational apps for young children. As she looked for quality applications, she was overwhelmed by the number available...some were great, while others were a complete waste of time and money. She saw the need for a filter, a source for finding quality educational iPhone and iPad apps for young children and so, on August 20th 2010 Lunchbox Reviews was born.

Lunchbox Reviews is a resource for those looking to find the best children't mobile apps out there. You can read reviews on the ones you are considering downloading or leave your own reviews to help other parents decide. It collects, categorizes and rates iPhone, iPod, and iPad apps for young children with the goal of helping parents find educational, quality and age-appropriate apps easily. The reviews come from several places, including Milanie, as well as other reuptable sources around the internet that she trusts.

When I was first introduced to Lunchbox Reviews I was thrilled and thought it was a fantastic idea to create a site like this for parents to utilize. Many of us find ourselves downloading apps, only to realize that they're complete duds. I think it's fantastic to have a resource where reviews for children's apps are placed in one location so you can decide which ones are best for your kids.

I have found Lunchbox Reviews to be a very user-friendly website. It's incredibly easy to navigate and find what you're looking for by searching the Platform, Age, and Category tabs. I have enjoyed searching through possible apps for Kaelyn and have found many useful reviews as well as detailed descriptions about each app. It has helped me decide which ones would be best for her. With everything from the description to screenshots and reviews...you're sure to be able to find the apps that suit your kids best. There are even direct links to download the apps in iTunes too.

I have been very impressed with Lunchbox Reviews and am happy there is a resource like this for parents. It's definitely one I would recommend checking out if you're looking for quality, educational and age appropriate children's apps for your kids.

Philips A Simple Switch & Eco-Artware.com Review and Giveaway

Posted by Jenna | Thursday, October 28, 2010

For those who read here often, you probably know that over the years I have tried to become more eco-conscious. I do my best to think more about the products we buy, as well as simple things like not leaving the lights on if we leave the room. Finding 'greener' ways to live has become very important to me, especially since having children. That's why I was thrilled when asked to be an official brand ambassador for the Philips green revolution!
Philips has created A Simple Switch, which is a quick survey that assists people in discovering just how energy efficient they are by showing them their energy color. Although I think of myself as fairly eco-conscious, I was still a little nervous to see what my energy color would be. After answering questions like, "Do you leave lights on in rooms that no one is in?"...I had no idea what the results would show. It turns out our family got a C. That definitely leaves room for improvement! Taking the survey helped me see the areas I can improve in. I am definitely going to start unplugging some of our appliances when they're not in use as well as replacing old light bulbs in a more timely manner.

One way I have tried to become more eco-conscious is to purchase products from companies that have that same mindset. As a brand ambassador for the Philips green revolution, I had the opportunity to review a product from a great, eco-friendly company called Eco-Artware.com. They are committed to providing eco-friendly gifts from recycled, reused and natural materials!

As I browsed the Eco-Artware online store for the first time, I was very impressed with the large collection of unique, high quality and environmentally friendly gifts that they offer. No matter the occasion...winter holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, etc...they have natural and recycled products perfect for those who care about our planet.

I was sent a Set of 6 Record Label Coasters to review.

When they arrived, I was immediately impressed! I love the circular case they come in and knew this would be perfect for keeping them together when not in use.

Each coster was created from an original, unplayable record. They are double-sided and laminated to protect the labels from moisture and to prevent scuffs on furniture. The coaster sets like the one I received are comprised of six assorted vintage record labels.

The idea of using original records as coasters is something I would have never thought of. What a neat idea! I have enjoyed looking through each of the coasters and have found them to be a great conversation piece! They're unique, fun, and a great way to reuse unplayable records without simply throwing them away.

One of the main things I love about this coaster set is the quality. They are very well-made and something I know will last a long time. A lot of care went into making sure of that, which is something I really appreciate and look for in the products I buy for myself and for others as gifts.

As I mentioned before, the coaster set is just one of so many great items found at Eco-Artware.com! They offer an array of beautiful products that would make perfect gifts and items in the home - bags, children's toys, jewelry...the list goes on! As I looked through their selection I continued to be amazed with all the creative and unique products offered. For instance, check out these platters!

They are 17" in diameter, handmade from retired aluminum road signs and recycled copper rivets. They have pre-drilled hanging holes so they could easily be hung on a wall, or of course, used to serve food. What I love about a product like this is that no two platters are the same. Each is unique due to the exposure to weather that each has had.

If you're looking for beautiful, unique, well-made and environmentally friendly gift ideas, I would suggest taking a look at Eco-Artware.com.

Win It: One lucky winner is going to win a Black & White 17 inch platter (a $70 value!) from Eco-Artware.com!

Miraclebody Jeans Review & Giveaway

Posted by Jenna | Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Over the years my body has changed, especially after two pregnancies. Gone are the days where I could throw on an outfit without giving it a second thought or glance. Now I find that I have to try on several things before deciding which shirt lays just right (one that's not too loose or too tight, not too long or too short, etc) or which pair of pants will hide all my flaws. Although it takes more effort now, I still want to dress nicely and feel confident in what I'm wearing. That's why I was thrilled when I came across Miraclebody!
Brought to you by the makers of Miraclesuit, the #1 brand designer of control swimwear, Miraclebody provides women of all shapes and sizes, comfortable form-flattering fashion control apparel including things like jeans, tops, skirts and leggings - all of which are designed to make you look 10lbs lighter in 10 seconds! Who doesn't want that, right?!

I was really excited when I found out that I was going to have the opportunity to review a pair of their Samantha Boot Cut Jeans w/ Classic Pocket!

Features:

 • 10” Mid-rise: sits on the hips to create curves, higher in the back for additional rear coverage
 • Boot cut: subtle flair in the leg helps creates a balanced appearance
 • Embroidered pockets: Classic style, designed to give the illusion of a slimmer backside
 • 98% Cotton, 2% Spandex: comfortable fit with breathe-easy stretch
 • 32” Inseam: regular length
 • Machine washable: inside out, gentle cycle
 • Made in the USA of imported fabric
I have to admit that I haven't always had the best of luck shopping for clothes online for myself. I have a difficult time determining which size to get. Even when trying jeans on in the store, it can be difficult to find the right size, so I was especially nervous about picking a size having never tried them on before. At first I considered choosing a size bigger than I normally wear, just to make sure they would fit. However, after thinking about it long and hard, I decided they have a size chart for a reason and decided to get the size it recommended based on my measurements. I am SO glad I did!

When the jeans arrived, I was very excited to check them out. As I opened the box I instantly loved the darker wash. It's something that can easily be dressed up or dressed down.

I couldn't help but notice the Miraclebody signature logo on the rivets and button, as well as on the waistband. It gives it a nice finishing touch.

Of course, the big question wasn't whether or not I loved the way they looked, that was answered the moment I saw them...it was how (or if) they'd fit! When I put them on I was incredibly happy...they fit perfectly! I was amazed with how comfortable they were. From my experience, slimming jeans are not always the most comfortable so this was a pleasant surprise.

The premium Lycra denim seems like really great quality, and best of all, the blend of cotton and spandex control fabric shapes and slims the thighs and lifts the rear. They also have a front control panel in the unique miracle fabric, Miratex, to help flatten and control the tummy...yay! I was amazed how slimming these jeans are. I know the slogan is 'Look 10 lbs Lighter in 10 Seconds' but I had to try them on to believe it.

I have found them to be comfortable and slimming. I really like the boot cut style and the way the subtle flair helps to balance out my hips. They are a bit long for me, but at only 5'3" this is something I'm used to. I prefer jeans to be longer than too short anyways, and usually wear tall enough shoes where it is not an issue. I noticed that the waist is higher than what I'm used to...but I love not having to worry that every time I bend over to pick up one of my kids, or reach up for something in the cupboard that my stomach or back will be exposed. It's amazing how much confidence a pair of jeans can give you when they're made to give such a flawless look that's comfortable and stylish.

If you're looking for a pair of jeans that are stylish and slimming, I would suggest looking into Miraclebody and their selection of boot cut, straight and skinny jeans!

Buy It: You can purchase the Samantha Boot Cut Jeans w/Classic Pocket for $110.

Win it: One very lucky winner is going to win a pair of Miraclebody Jeans ~ choosing from the Samantha classic pocket, Skinny Minnie classic pocket, or Katie classic pocket styles).

Mandatory Entry - Visit Miraclebody and leave a comment letting me know which of the following pairs you would choose if you won ~ Samantha classic pocket, Skinny Minnie classic pocket, or Katie classic pocket

Healthy & Fun Alternatives to Candy this Halloween

Posted by Jenna | Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Halloween Clipart Images

Halloween is just around the corner which means trick or treating with our kids or handing out candy for many of us. It's a day most kids look forward to for many weeks...getting all dressed up, and of course...the candy! As a parent I enjoy seeing my kids in their cute costumes, but like many of you I'm sure, I am not all that excited about the amount of candy they will try to eat.

Having grown up with a mom in the dental field, I'm well aware of the dental damages caused by sweet treats, and cavities are the last thing I want my little ones to deal with. That's why I was happy when I learned that the employees of HealthPartners Dental Clinics will be handing out glow-in-the-dark Silly Bandz to trick-or-treaters who visit their homes instead of candy. What a neat idea!

I think this is a great time of year to promote dental health and love the idea of finding healthy and fun alternatives to candy on Halloween. Afterall, things like Silly Bandz are quite popular among kids and teens of all ages these days. For those who aren't familiar with them, they are colorful rubber bands in a variety of shapes that are worn as bracelets.

HealthPartners Dental Clinics also offered other ideas for candy substitutes that I thought I would share:
 • Temporary tattoos
 • Glow sticks
 • Reflective Stickers
 • Popcorn
 • Play-Doh
I thought these were all great ideas!

What about you? Do you have other ideas for healthy and fun alternatives to candy this Halloween? I'd love to hear them!

**HealthPartners sent us two packages of Silly Bandz, however this did not sway my opinions in any way. I think coming up with alternatives to candy for Halloween is a great idea and one I thought I'd share about with my readers. The opinions of others may differ from my own**

They're getting so big...

Brianna's Bedding and Beyond Review & $25 GC Giveaway

Posted by Jenna | Tuesday, October 26, 2010

Whether it be toys, clothing, furniture or something else...when it comes to the products I buy for my kids, I want to make sure that they're good quality, cute and fun, and something that will last us a long time. I am always on the lookout for things like this, which is why I was thrilled when introduced to Brianna's Bedding and Beyond.

Melanie, the owner of Kids Chair World, a company I was fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to review this past summer, also owns Brianna's Bedding and Beyond. After becoming a mom, Melanie began selling things on Ebay as a hobby and a way to make a little extra money. When her daughter Brianna turned two...she got her a new bed and some new bedding. It was at that point she realized how much she loved the quality and design of Olive Kids Bedding, their mission and who they were as a company. She knew she wanted to sell their bedding and accessories in her Ebay Store, and so, Brianna's Bedding and Beyond was born! It is her mission to provide parents with high quality children's bedding and product that match in quality and comfort, which is something she has stuck by as her business grows.

The first time I browsed through Brianna's Bedding and Beyond, I was very impressed with the selection of quality children's bedding, accessories and room decor offered. I love the variety and the fact that there's something for both boys and girls. I couldn't have been happier when I learned I was going to have the opportunity to review one of their products.

We were sent the Olive Kids Trains Kids Wall Clock.

Features:

 • Measures 12 in. across
 • Silent movements
 • Matches the coordinating Olive Kids bedding themes
 • Can be personalized
I have heard great things about Olive Kids products, but this clock is the first of their items I've ever owned. When it arrived I was very excited to check it out. As I pulled it out of the box, I was really happy with the quality. Unlike the cheapy one I had hanging in the kids' playroom at the time, this one is made to last. It seems very durable and is far from 'cheapy'.

Oh, and did I mention it's absolutely adorable?! I love the bright colors and knew right away it would be the perfect addition to my kids' playroom! I was right. It looks amazing, and we've already received many compliments. This is something both kids and parents can enjoy.

The neat thing about this, and the other Olive Kids clocks, are that they can be personalized. I was asked if I'd like this one personalized, but since it's something for both of my kids, I decided to leave it the way it is. I do love the idea of personalization though, and had it been for one of their bedrooms, I would have definitely done it. There's just something extra special about having your name on items....especially for kids!

Of course, this clock is just one of so many great, high quality products at Brianna's Bedding and Beyond. Whether you're looking for personalized gifts, kids comforter sets, or even children's backpacks...they have it all for everyone from infants to teens!

Kaden is still in the nursery which I have painted yellow with an animal theme. However, once he moves into a bed and a different room, I'd love to go with the Olive Kids Construction Bedding Set and accessories. Isn't it cute?!

I'm very happy with the quality of the Olive Kids clock we received. If you're looking for high quality bedding for kids, personalized accessories and room decor, you may want to check Brianna's Bedding and Beyond out for yourself!

Buy It: You can purchase the Olive Kids Trains Kids Wall Clock for $24.89.

Win It:
One lucky reader is going to win a $25 Gift Certificate to use at Brianna's Bedding and Beyond!!

The Top Twenty Tips for New and Expecting Moms!

Posted by Jenna | Tuesday, October 26, 2010

Back in September I had the pleasure of co-hosting a live chat along with a number of amazing mom bloggers, thanks to Philips AVENT and TheMotherhood. You may remember me mentioning the chat called The Gift of Advice for Expecting Moms & New Moms?! It was a fun time sharing tips and words of wisdom that each of us have learned through pregnancy and becoming a new mom. What a great way to guide women through the joyful and exciting process of becoming a mom for the first time! I really enjoyed reading everyone else's experiences and advice.

After the chat, a list of The Top Twenty Tips for New and Expecting Moms was compiled. I wanted to be sure to share them, as I thought many new moms would find it to be very helpful.

Pregnancy
1. Keep a journal or take weekly photos to capture the magical moments of your pregnancy. Philips AVENT is launching a Facebook application soon that will help you do this – stay tuned!
2. Take naps, rest, and be OK with the fact that you might not be able to do as much as you normally would.
3. If this is your second pregnancy, know that it might not be the same as your first. Every pregnancy is unique!
4. Make a list and pack a bag for the hospital. Don’t forget less obvious items like a phone list of people you want to notify when the baby is born, change for the vending machines and baby’s first outfit!
5. Buy a baby memory book and ask the nurse at the hospital to put your newborn’s footprints and hospital bracelet in the book.

Preparing for Baby’s Arrival
6. Take a mom with you when you register for baby items so you know you’re requesting items you’ll really use, like baby bottles and pacifiers.
7. Make and freeze meals for yourself and your family before you’re due to give birth.
8. Put a small refrigerator in your bedroom and fill it with milk, snacks and water so you’ll have those items close at hand once your baby has arrived.
9. Stock up on diapers – you’ll need lots – as you won’t always have the energy to get more later on. You can spread out the cost by buying one package of diapers for each trip to the grocery store.
10. Look into local mom groups ahead of time – they can be a great source of advice, support, and even meals!

Caring for Your Newborn
11. You can NEVER love your baby too much! It’s okay to give him or her lots of affection.
12. Ask family and friends for recommendations on finding the right pediatrician shortly after your baby is born. A good pediatrician is like a parenting partner.
13. Read your baby, not the books. Trust your instincts and focus on your child’s needs.
14. When you need to put your baby down somewhere, put him/her on the floor. He/she can’t fall off the floor.
15. Don’t take on the entire process of caring for your child. Relinquish control once in a while, and let your partner help you.

Caring for Yourself
16. Be clear about visitation parameters. Everyone will want to see you and the new baby, but you need time to rest.
17. If you need something, ask for it! You aren’t superhuman, and people want to help.
18. Take a little guilt-free “me” time for yourself every day.
19. If someone asks how they can help you, ask them to bring food. The more meals you have stocked in the freezer, the less time and energy you have to spend making dinner.
20. Let go of perfection. When your baby is sleeping, you should sleep too – don’t use the time to clean the house or run errands.

Do you have any other tips or advice for expecting moms and new moms? If so, we'd love to hear them!

Also, be sure to check out all my current giveaways and stay tuned for more to post this week!!

Hope everyone is having a fantastic Monday!

When Kaelyn began eating solid foods, I knew I wanted to give making my own baby food a try. I absolutely loved how easy it was, the fact that it saved us money...and best of all, the peace of mind it gave me knowing what was going into her food and that it was as healthy for her as possible. When it came time for Kaden to start solids, I did the same for him as well...and continue to do so to this day.

Kaden is getting to the point where he eats more finger foods than pureed foods, however, I do still like to prepare and freeze some of his fruits and veggies ahead of time and really enjoy making homemade applesauce for both the kids on a regular basis. So, you can imagine my excitement when I learned that we were going to have the opportunity to review Annabel Karmel's Food Making Accessories as part of the third phase of the Infantino Test Drive Program through Mom Central!!

The package included:

 • Fresh Food Mill
 • Frozen Tray
 • Fill & Freeze Puree Pops
 • Double Decker Meal Box
 • 6 Stackable Meal Pots
 • Mash & Serve Bowl
 • Steam Release Micro Bowl
When the products arrived I couldn't wait to test them out. So far we've gotten a lot of use out of the Fresh Food Mill, Freeze Tray, and Fill & Freeze Puree Pops ... all of which are Dishwasher Safe and BPA Free, two things that are very much appreciated around this household!

When I first saw the Fresh Food Mill, I could tell it was great quality...however, I wasn't sure how I'd like mixing Kaden's baby food by hand (rather than with a food processor). Having used it now though, I have found it to be a great alternative to using other mixing devices. Not only is it super easy to use and less messy, but I have also found that it's easier to get the consistency to where I want it.

The Fresh Food Mill is ideal for making smooth fruit or vegetable purees. I have tried several things, including the homemade applesauce I make for the kids. By simply placing the soft apples in the food mill and rotating the handle clockwise...we have yummy applesauce in no time! It couldn't be easier!

It is also great for pureeing foods like potato, as pureeing in a blender breaks down the starches and produces a sticky texture.

Whenever I make applesauce, I always make more than enough so we have plenty to freeze. I have found the Freeze Tray to be the perfect way to do this! When it comes to making homemade baby food, preparing and freezing it is the only way to go! It allows you to freeze and store freshly prepared baby food in batches so you only need to cook several times a month.

This small Food Cube Tray is perfect for freezing small portions of baby food. It includes nine 1 oz. food cubes in meal portion size perfect for babies. It's been great for applesauce, as well as other foods I make for Kaden. I really love the square size, as it fits in our very crowded freezer very well. The lid is also nice, as it helps to keep the food fresh. I know we will get a lot more use out of this and can see us purchasing more of these trays in the future!

One of my favorite products out of those we received (and the kids' favorite!) would definitely have to be the Fill & Freeze Puree Pops!!

Kaden is teething and forever chewing on everything. He absolutely loves sucking on something cold to sooth his sore gums, which is why I knew these Fill & Freeze Puree Pops would be perfect. Although Kaelyn is no longer teething, she still loves homemade 'popsicles', who doesn't, right?!

The Fill & Freeze Puree Pops are great for making fresh fruit lollies from fresh fruit and pure fruit juice. We have tried them out several times, and a favorite of my kids is when I freeze the applesauce I make with some fruit juice! They love it. It's been fun experimenting with different recipes. The set includes four puree pops, so they go pretty quickly, but are so easy to use that we just keep filling them up! They fit so nicely in the tray, so there's no mess and the lollies are the perfect size every time.

I love the fact that they have an easy to hold handle, which is great for both babies and toddlers. They are something that both Kaden and Kaelyn can both enjoy.

So far we've been very impressed with the Annabel Karmel Food Making Accessories! The quality is fantastic and ease of use has been great. We are in the process of testing out the other products we received, so be sure and stay tuned for another post coming soon with our experiences and thoughts.

Also, if you haven't visited the Infantino website recently, you may want to take a moment and do so. They've launched a brand new website this month and I for one, love it! You can also connect with Infantino on Twitter and Facebook.

Pink Together 'Connecting for a Cure' Gift Pack Giveaway

Posted by Jenna | Thursday, October 21, 2010

As many of you probably know, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month! For those who have been readers here for a while, you may remember my post about Pink Together last October. Recognizing the tremendous impact breast cancer continues to have on millions of lives, General Mills created Pink Together...a campaign that aims to raise greater awareness of the disease and to help those touched by breast cancer find strength together.

Now in its fourth year, Pink Together continues to grow, now how having more than 680,000 breast cancer survivors and supporters. It's an online community where you'll find those who have been touched by breast cancer. You can share stories, post comments of encouragement and even send flowers to let someone know you are thinking of them. I think it's a fantastic way for people to come together. Just reading through the empowering stories from the 2010 Pink Together Survivor Ambassadors was such an inspiration. Their stories will also be featured on the Pink Together Facebook Fan Page, YouTube channel, and on special pink packaging on General Mills' brands. If you or someone you know would make a great candidate for next year's Pink Together Survivor Ambassadors, you can visit PinkTogether.com for more info.

General Mills is donating $1 (up to $20,000) to Komen for each inspirational story submitted, encouraging comment posted, or virtual flower of support sent on PinkTogether.com, and for each shared message of hope posted on Pink Together's Facebook fan page during the month of October (up to $5,000). This $25,000 is in addition to the $2 million donation General Mills has committed to Komen to advance breast cancer research and support education and community outreach projects. I think this is so great!

To help generate awareness about Pink Together, General Mills sent me a 'Connecting for a Cure' gift pack through MyBlogSpark that included the following items:

 • Pink Ribbon car magnet and key chain
 • Travel mug
 • Drawstring backpack
 • Coupons for free packages of one Big G cereal, Green Giant Frozen Veggies, Macaroni Grill Dinner Kits, Fiber One Bars and Progresso Soup.
All of the items in this gift pack are from ShopKomen.com, where 25% of the merchandise purchase price benefits Komen. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to review one of these gift packs and can tell you that the items are great!! What a neat way to inspire and generate awareness!

Halloween Is Just Around The Corner

Posted by Jenna | Thursday, October 21, 2010

Today is my birthday, and as with years past, every time October 21st rolls around I know that Halloween is just around the corner! As a child this was always very exciting to me...I loved the excitement of trick or treating drawing near and getting the chance to get all dressed up. Our family never made a real big deal over Halloween, but it was a lot of fun getting a new costume every year and of course, getting to go trick or treating with my brothers. Now as a parent, I have that same excitement for my kids. I love finding them cute costumes and taking them out to trick or treat.

This will be Kaelyn's 3rd Halloween and Kaden's 1st. We decided it would be fun to do a theme for their costumes this year and went with Wizard of Oz! Kaelyn will be Dorothy and Kaden will be the lion. I'm looking forward to it...I have a feeling both of them will have a great time! :)

How about you? Have you bought yourself and/or your kids Halloween costumes yet? If you haven't started shopping for a costume yet, there is still a little time...and you may just be able to find great deals if you're shopping online too! I was recently browsing around Coupon Trunk, one of my favorite sites to find great coupon codes and deals updated daily, and came across a lot of great discounts for Halloween costumes and decor. Meijer and Costume Craze were just a couple of the places, but there were many more that would be great for those who are still shopping around.

I've turned to Coupon Trunk many times in the past when shopping online. I love the convenience of being able to shop from home, but there are times when prices are more than I'd like to pay or shipping prices are too spendy. That's why I love Coupon Trunk. Their site is easy to use and makes it simple to find coupons and discounts for pretty much anything you're looking to buy. It's a fantastic resource and one I always recommend checking out to those who are looking for great deals as well.

So what about you? I'd love to hear what everyone and their kids are planning on dressing up as this Halloween!

**This post was sponsored by Coupon Trunk, however all opinions found here are my own and were not influenced in any way. I love using Coupon Trunk for finding great deals when shopping online and enjoy sharing about this resource for anyone else who is interested as well.**
