For those who read here often, you know that I am not a fan of winter! Along with this time of year not only comes bitter cold temps and lots of snow and ice, but also runny noses, coughs, and fevers. It's a cycle that seems continuous, as one family member passes it to the next and so on. That's why I am always on the lookout for products that will help make cold and flu season easier for our family and was happy when introduced to two new high tech health products from Safety 1st.
For the past 25 years Safety 1st has been bringing parents high quality, innovative products they can trust. With everything from car seats and strollers to high chairs, play yards, monitors and more...it's no wonder they are a name parents continue to turn to time and time again. I know I do!
Over the years we've owned several Safety 1st products and I'm always impressed with the quality and thought that goes into creating each one. They are dedicated to keeping children safe as well as providing busy parents with products that make life easier...which is evident when it comes to two of their new health items.
Did you know that according to the CDC, each year up to 20% of people come down with the flu, with activity peaking in February?! That's why, although they can't cure the flu, Safety 1st now has two great products that can help make life a little easier when the family is not feeling well.
We were sent the Safety 1st VersaScan TALKING Thermometer and Safety 1st Sound Moments Audio Monitor to review.
Just looking at the Sound Moments Audio Monitor 2 Receiver Set, I was already drawn to the sleek and simple design. And of course, couldn't wait to see all this product had to offer.
Features/Benefits:
Baby Unit
- Digital clock
- Tap-on/off nightlight
- Pager button
- Quick mute button
- Sound lights
- 4 channels to minimize interference
- Power & low battery indicators
- Audio jack for listening with earphones
- Belt clip & carry loop
- Volume control
- 49 MHz frequency
- 600+ foot range
One of my favorite thing about these monitors is that there are four channels to minimize interference. I can't tell you how many monitors we've used in the past that have had terrible interference. Thankfully, we have had no problem with these from Safety 1st at all! The sound is crisp and clear.
Anytime my kids are sleeping, it's important to me that I'm able to monitor them day and night, but especially when they're not feeling well. That's why I appreciate the fact that the Sound Moments Audio MOnitor has a 600+ foot range! That means, using the handy belt clip or carry loop on the parent monitor, I'm able to easily keep the monitor with me where ever I'm at in the house and monitor them no matter what I'm doing. I love it!
I also like that there are two receivers. We are able to keep one in our bedroom all the time for night time, and have the other to carry around and use when we're somewhere else in the house. It has come in very handy. Thankfully, this is possible, as all three units have ac adapters to give the option of plugging it in and/or using batteries. There's even a low battery indicator.
The Parent Units also feature volume-sensitive sound lights. I absolutely love having these lights, as they alert me to even the slightest of noise. Of course, there are those times when a quick mute button comes in handy and the Parent Units have that as well!
And then there's the Baby Unit which has some pretty neat features as well! First is the pager, which caught my eye right away. I'm known for carrying around a monitor, setting it down when I get busy doing laundry, the dishes, etc. and then forgetting where I left it! Now, thanks to this simple pager button I am easily reminded where I set it down!
On the front of the Baby Unit, there's also a digital clock (something I wish more baby monitors had!), as well as a Tap-on/off nightlight. The nightlight is another of my favorite features, as its soft glow makes it easy to check on a sleeping child without disturbing them.
We've really enjoyed using the Sound Moments Audio Monitor from Safety 1st. I love that we haven't had to worry about poor reception and the many features which make it easy to check on the kids without disturbing them.
Of course, other than having a monitor to make sure you're able to keep a close ear on your kids (especially when they're not feeling well), having a good quality thermometer on hand is also very important. That's why I was looking forward to checking out the Safety 1st VersaScan TALKING Thermometer.
Features/Benefits:
- Reads Ear, Food and Bath temps
- Silent or talking mode: your choice
- Quick, 1 second reading
- Fever Light™ Button illuminates red for fever
- 30 memory recall gives both temperature and time
- Temperature chart included on product for easy reference
- Includes 2 "AAA" replaceable alkaline batteries
My absolute favorite feature of this thermometer is that it has a quick, 1 second reading. If your kids are like mine, they do NOT like having their temperature taken when they're not feeling well. With the squirming around while we wait for a reading on the other thermometer we used to use, I was always concerned the reading was not even accurate. Thanks to the 1 second reading on the Safety 1st VersaScan TALKING Thermometer though, I don't have to worry about that at all. I have a reading in no time at all, and best of all...the kids don't seem to mind it one bit.
There are many other features I really appreciate about this thermometer as well....one being that it seems to be very accurate. When it comes to having a sick child (or even adult), it's important that the reading is accurate.
Using the thermometer couldn't be easier either! Setting it up took no time at all, and the 2 AAA batteries it requires were already included. YAY! Once I had it ready to use, I put it on Ear Mode (there will be an Ear Mode symbol on the display) and positioned the thermometer probe in Kaelyn's ear canal. Then, with a press of a button, you get your reading in one second!
Once the reading has been taken, it appears on the display, along with a voice read-out that tells you the number. If there is no fever present, the Fever Light ring will illuminate green while a smiley icon appears on the display screen. If your child has an elevated temperature of 99.6 or above, the Fever Light ring will illuminate red and a sad face appears on the screen.
For times when you don't want the talking mode on, there is a silent mode as well. I also appreciate the 30 memory recall which gives both the temperature and time. This is especially useful when one of the kids is sick and we're taking their temperature often!
We have been very impressed with the ProGrade Health VersaScan Talking Thermometer from Safety 1st. It makes taking our kids' temps fast and easier than ever! I appreciate the many features it offers to make the times our family is not feeling well so much easier.
I would definitely recommend both of these products from Safety 1st for any family with children.
