When the Little Tikes kitchen playset arrived, the kids were SO excited (including my almost 1 year old at the time!). Out of the box there was some assembly, but like most Little Tikes products...was very simple to put together thanks to the user-friendly instructions! I appreciated that it didn't take long, as I had three very anxious little ones waiting to play with it!

Once it was put together, I was impressed with the high quality right away. Once again, Little Tikes did not disappoint! I could tell this will be something that will last a long time. YAY! Not only that, but the overall modern look was also something caught my attention. It's very realistic looking, which makes it that much more fun for the kids. Our kitchen is even red, so Kaelyn thought that was a fun similarity to "real life" as well!

To get the most fun out of a kitchen playset like this, little ones need accessories so that they can connect with their world through creative play, imitating life as they see their parents do it. That's why I LOVE the fact that the Cook n' Grow Kitchen from Little Tikes comes with 50+ accessories including plates, cups, pots, etc!

Not only that, but of course there's also many features that make playtime fun, including an oven, refrigerator, and microwave...all with doors that open and close. Kaelyn and Kaden love to bake us up goodies in them! And, when it's time to cook at the stove, the electronic cooking sounds are a lot of fun too!

There's also hooks for hanging cups and molded slots to hold plates to help keep everything organized.

Aside from all of these features that are fantastic, the one thing that stood out to me most as making this kitchen playset so unique from others I've seen, is that it has 2 age grade configurations. 1)Kitchen is expanded and the height is just right for toddlers and 2)Compacting the kitchen makes it just right for preschoolers. 

Kaelyn and Kaden both like it compacted so that's it's more at their height, but when Caysen wants to play, the expanded height works out great for his age/height! I love this feature because most kitchens would still be too tall from him to really get the most out of playing with it, not this one though! He is able to play right along with his brother and sister, and has a GREAT time too! The fact that this kid's kitchen playset grows with children is just another reason why I think it would make a fantastic gift for young children. It's something that families can be certain will last them for many years, remaining a source of fun the whole time!

 

Although Caysen is a bit too young to engage in role play like his siblings, he does enjoy the included shape-sorting pot with lids. It helps a child his age develop fine motor skills, matching and more! I truly appreciate that Little Tikes thought of various ages when creating this fun kitchen playset, it's perfect for the age range our kids are (1-5 years old)!

 

I also appreciate that it's very easy to expand or make compact. By simply sliding in a piece between the two sides to hook them together, and securing a hook on the back, you can go from one stage to another very quickly. 

 

As you can probably see, we are thrilled with how versatile, fun and engaging the Little Tikes Cook n' Grow Kitchen is for our kids! I would definitely recommend it as a must-have Christmas gift this holiday season.

Although this toy is geared toward kindergarten age children, Kaelyn has shown an interest in letter sounds and making words lately, and has even started to spell some simple sight words and write them down on her own. To help challenge and encourage her, I thought the Word Whiz Electronic Flash Card would be perfect for her! I was right!!

When the product arrived, Kaelyn was thrilled when I told her what it was. Out of the package, I put the batteries in (which are not included) and read through the instructions. I was thankful for the user guide, but it is pretty simple to use and could have probably figured it out on my own as well. This is something I appreciate, as I wanted it to be easy and fun to use since Kaelyn is the one using it.

To get started, we pressed the power button to turn it on. We then found the selector switch and selected a skill level. There are three, level 1, 2 and 3. Level one works on beginning letter sound with 2 letter word families. Level 2 works on beginning letter sounds and 3 letter word families. Level 3 works on blends combined with 2 and 3 letter word families.

Once we had it on Level 1 which is right where Kaelyn is right now, we pressed an answer button to start the game. The Word Whiz drill began and Kaelyn had 60 seconds to build as many words as she could. I love how simple it is, yet so educational at the same time. She has a lot of fun trying to fine the correct beginning letter and build a word with it in the center of the screen. She knows when she's gotten it correct because there's a "correct" sound and a "negative" sound.

At the end of 60 seconds the unit will display a score indicating the number of correct words built out of the number of words that appeared. She always gets so excited to show me her number - which is a great way for her to work on number recognition as well!

For those who just want to practice without a timer, there's also an untimed mode too. To disable the timer, the user simply presses and holds an answer button. This gives the child time to practice without being timed.

Overall we've really liked the Word Whiz Electronic Flash Card from Learning Resources. It's a lot of fun, and best of all it's educational, challenges Kaelyn...all while being fun at the same time! I would highly recommend it to parents with children ages 5-7. It's something that can grow with them with the different levels of difficulty and would definitely make a great Christmas gift!

With the popularity of computers and touch screen tablets, it seems kids are drawn to technology over  the good ole' yellow No. 2 pencil and magic markers! I try to encourage creativity and time for my kids to be carefree, coloring and creating. That's why I was excited to learn that a Canadian company, Tech 4 Kids, is adding some magic by giving children the ability to drawn three-dimension artwork!

Since 2009, Tech 4 Kids has been designing, developing, manufacturing and marketing children's toys worldwide. Known for combining great innovation with some of the most popular children's licenses on the market, Tech 4 Kids offers six product lines and hundreds of toys catering to kids of all ages.

I had never heard of Tech 4 Kids before, but in learning more about this great company and visiting their website, I was impressed with their selection of toys. I was particularly drawn to the new Magna Color, a nifty arts & crafts kit that takes coloring to a whole new dimension and couldn't have been more thrilled we were going to have the opportunity to review it.

When the Magna Color arrived, I couldn't wait to show the kids. When Kaelyn saw it, she was excited to try it out. Recommended for children ages 4+, I knew it would be right up her alley.

Out of the box, we read the instructions and got started setting it up. It comes with everything you need to start creating, including two 2-sided stencils, one pair of 3D glasses, a Magna Color board, 4 Magic Dot dispensing pens and 160 Magic dots.

As I said, there is a little set up required. The kids were getting antsy while we got it all ready to play with, but agreed after seeing just how great of a toy that it is, that the time spent to get it all set up was well worth it!! And best of all, it didn't take long at all.

We first placed the pens into their compartment, then poured all of the 3D Magic Dots onto the board. Using the included swiper, we pushed them into a slot at the top where they easily separate into their appropriate compartment.

 

Once this was done, the only thing left to do was turn the Magna Color board so the 3D Magic Dots would fall into their correct pen. I did have to shake it a little to get some of them to go in, but in no time at all they were filled and ready to use.

We took out the four pens and flipped over the board. We decided on a stencil we wanted to try first. It simply slips in the board by lifting the frame and inserting it. Super easy!

Now comes the real fun part...coloring the picture with the 3D Magic Dots! By simply pressing down gently on one of the spots with the pen, 3D Magic Dots are relased. If you push down gently and slide the pen, it will release more of them in a row.

It took a few tries to get the hang of it, but the instructions had some helpful tips. For instance, we learned it was important to to hold the pen in with our thumb placed over the window slot. This made it easy to color the picture.

Both Kaelyn and Kaden gave it a try and did great! They loved making their own creations, but also using the stencils as well. I appreciate that it encourages color recognition and matching, especially for Kaden when he places the colored dots on the correct color on the stencil. It's great for times when they want to use the provided stencils, or make their own design. I love that it's versatile, as it makes it something that the kids can do and enjoy for hours on end.

It is also great for fine motor skills and best of all, encouraging creativity! The Magna Color truly has taken coloring to a whole new dimension using Magic Dot Pens to draw colorful works of art. And that's not all. Not only do the kids have a ton of fun creating their pictures, but the WOW factor comes when they slip on the 3D UltraVision Glasses. This makes the images seem to pop off the screen. Both Kaelyn and Kaden were in awe of this and couldn't get enough of seeing their creations through these glasses!

When we're ready to draw again, clearing the dots is easy! We simply use the Screen Swiper and push them to the top, then gently shake and sort them back into their correct pens. I was thrilled that there was no mess with getting it cleaned up.

I have been very impressed with the Magna Color and definitely think it would make a fantastic gift for children 4 years and up! It can be purchased at Toys R Us, Walmart, Kohl's, BJ's Wholesale Club and many more retailers for $24.99.

I love sitting back and watching my kids engage in pretend play! One of Kaelyn and Kaden's favorite things to do is care for their baby dolls. My little boy turned 1 year old a week ago, wow...where did that year go?! Being my third child it has taken me longer to get the baby weight off this time around. When the Scale arrived, I took it out of the box right away. I was immediately impressedwith the durable, stainless steel design. Not only can I tell that this will be something to last me a long time, but it's sleek, modern look also looks great in my kitchen. I love the look!

 

Of course, after checking it out, I couldn't wait to give it a try. I was thrilled to find that the 4 AAA batteries needed were included. It was great, because I did not have any in that size on hand. Having them included made it possible for me to use it right away which I really appreciated. This also is a great thing for people who are thinking about giving this as a gift. The recipient will love being able to use their scale right out of the box!

Once I had it all set to use, I turned it on. The scale then counted down 3-2-1 and went to zero. At this point I selected my desired measurement from the choices: grams, kilograms, ounces and pounds. It was now ready to use. I found myself making a dinner that evening that required 6 oz of spaghetti noodles. I usually buy a larger box of noodles, and without a scale would typically guess (usually guessing way more than needed). I was excited to have the scale to help me measure out the exact amount I needed for this particular recipe. And, it couldn't have been easier!

I simply turned it on, set the noodles on the scale and added to it until I had 6 oz. It was perfect and sooo easy!

For times that I need to measure something on a plate or in a bowl, there's the tare function which is also very easy to use. It allows me to autmoatically return the scale to zero at any time, enableing you to subtract the weight of an item (like a plate) or weight multiple items in a row. For instance, I measured a bowl like I normally would. Then, pressed the on/off/tare button. This reset the weight to zero. I then added the next ingredient to the bowl and weighed it. It was so simple, and accurate!

As I said, aside from cooking I also like to use the Precision Elite Kitchen Scale to help me keep track of portion sizes and start living a healthier lifestyle. Thanks to the scale and the helpful EatSmart Calorie Factors book included have made it easy for me to do just that! Everything from fruit, to breads, to snacks...I use it to help me count calories.


When it comes to sweets, I especially like to count my calories and make sure I'm not consuming too much. I have used this scale several times to weight things like cookies so I know how many calories I'm eating.

I truly appreciate that this scale has taken the guessing game out of portion sizes and it has helped me watch my calorie intake. It is truly simple to use and very good quality! I love it's user-friendly features like easy to read backlit LCD display, as well as the fact that it has a maximum capacity of up to 15 lbs. This means that it can accommodate large mixing bowls and plates and is sure to tackle almost any job in the kitchen quickly and easily.

Thankfully, I had Wet Ones Hand Wipes in the diaper bag, because we used those to easily wipe up the kids before we had a bigger mess. They worked wonderfully!
