Thinking about my childhood, I have so many great memories of spending time together as a family. One of my favorites was family game night. In fact, when we get together at holidays and other gatherings, we almost always pull out a game to play. I want to be sure to create these same kinds of memories for my own kids, that's why I'm always looking for fun things we can do together...things that are fun and educational. Thankfully, I know I can count on Learning Resources for exactly that.
The leading manufacturer of innovative, hands-on educational materials for classrooms and learning toys for the home, Learning Resources has been a trusted source for educators and parents for more than 25 years! With a diverse product line of over 1300 products focusing on everything from mathematics, science, early childhood, reading, etc...it's no wonder Learning Resources is a name known around the world.
As a former preschool teacher, I am very familiar with Learning Resources and their fantastic selection of products for children. What I love about this company is their mission to develop quality educational products that make learning exciting for children of all ages and abilities. They create hands-on activities that build a foundation of skills through exploration, imagination and fun...things I was able to witness first hand as a teacher. As a fan of their award-winning products, I was excited to learn we were going to have the opportunity to review one.
Knowing how much Kaelyn enjoys playing games, I knew the Smart Snacks Counting Cookies Game would be a huge hit!
Features/Benefits:
- Fast-paced game
- Teaches number sense, number identification, counting (1-10), matching and following directions.
- 2 Levels of play
- Includes 50 cookies, 4 double sided cookie jar cards, spinner, Activity Guide and game board
- For 2-4 players
- Recommended for ages 3+
As I pulled it out of the box I found the game board, cookies, cookie jar cards, spinner and activity guide.
With Kaelyn so excited to play, I was hoping it wouldn't take long to figure out the directions. Thankfully, the activity guide and handy instructions on the back of the box were very helpful. In just a few minutes we were ready to play!
Kaelyn and I began by filling the cookie board with the small cookies (number side up). She really enjoyed this part, as she was matching the color of the cookies with the color on the board. There was learning going on right from the start!
To play the game couldn't have been more simple. When it's your turn, simply spin the spinner, take that number of cookies, and match them to the numbers on the cookie jar card. Kaelyn absolutely loves matching games and anything to do with numbers, so she loved everything about this game. She enjoyed finding the numbers and placing them in her cookie jar.
I have played with her several times and think the game is a lot of fun too. I love that it's fast-paced and not too long where she's going to get bored. It keeps her attention the entire time...so much so that she is always begging to play again right when we finish.
Best of all, this game teaches important skills like number recognition, counting, matching and following directions...all things that are great to practice as Kaelyn prepares for preschool. It's been such a joy seeing her learn while having fun. Once again, Learning Resources did not disappoint. We love the Smart Snacks Counting Cookies Game!
For older children, there is a more advanced way to play which I'm looking forward to as Kaelyn gets a little bit older.
