Kaelyn is so excited to go to preschool next year, she talks about it every day. And, although she missed the age requirement to attend this year...I know there are many things we can do here at home to get her learning, having fun and ready for next year. I found Learning Resources to be the perfect place to find fun, age appropriate activities that we can enjoy at home.
The leading manufacturer of innovative, hands-on educational materials for classrooms and learning toys for the home, Learning Resources has been a trusted source for educators and parents for more than 25 years! With a diverse product line of over 1300 products focusing on everything from mathematics, science, early childhood, reading, etc...it's no wonder Learning Resources is a name known around the world.
As I've mentioned before, I was introduced to the Learning Resources brand when I taught preschool before having children. What I love about this company is their dedication to developing quality educational products that make learning exciting for children of all ages and abilities. They create hands-on activities that build a foundation of skills through exploration, imagination and fun.
When asked if we'd like to review their Super Sorting Pie, I gladly said yes.
When it arrived, Kaelyn was eager to play. Of course, I couldn't wait either. I love their products just as much as she does and it's so neat to see her learning important skills while having so much fun! As a parent it's incredibly rewarding to witness.
As I pulled the pieces out of the box, I found that it included a 3 piece sorting pie, 60 fruit counters, 3 double sided activity cards and 2 jumbo tweezers. I could tell right away that this activity was going to be a great way to provide Kaelyn hands-on experiences with early math concepts such as sorting, counting, number sense, patterning, and more!
After reading the very user-friendly activity guide, I found there are many ways to enjoy this fun product. The pie has a removable sorting tray that allows children to sort and count many different ways. I asked Kaelyn which she'd like to try first and she said the fruit/color sorting. We simply placed the correct activity card in the pie and she was ready to get started.
She grabbed the tweezers to pick up each piece. I LOVE that these are included. They're a great way to give children opportunities to develop fine motor skills while engaging in early math practice. It really added to the fun and was perfect for her age.
Kaelyn did a great job sorting the fruit counters into the correct sections. She also really enjoyed the number one as well! What a great way to work on recognizing numbers and correspondence.
Placing all the fruit in the pie is another way this can be used. We've done different things like picking the fruits out of the pie to make a pattern, match the fruit with another fruit like it, etc. What I love is that there are many things you can do with it...both easy and more challenging. It's really something I see growing with the kids and an activity we can use differently each time depending on their interest and ability levels.
Kaden is almost 2, and although he couldn't use the tweezers yet, he did have fun putting the fruit counters in the correction section when we were working on colors. I really didn't know if he'd catch on, but he quickly surprised me and started helping Kaelyn put them in the correct spots.
So, although this is more along the lines of what 3+ year olds can do, I have even found that it's a lot of fun for my almost 2 year old as well!
Another neat thing that I really appreciate about this product, is that it allows us to keep everything organized when we're not playing with it. All of the counters fit within the pie and the top crust acts as a lid. I love it!
If you can't tell, I've been really happy with the Super Sorting Pie from Learning Resources. It's already provided hours of fun and learning. I would definitely recommend it to parents with young children and think it would make a fantastic gift idea this holiday season!
