Winterizing Our Home
Thanks for the post from Sylvester Campbell
As a part of our holiday preparation each fall, our family takes time to winterize our home in preparation for the long, cold winter ahead. While we normally reverse our fans and check our alarms, most of our winterizing efforts focus on energy savings. Our normal winterizing checklist includes items such as checking our ducts for leaks or kinks. We apply window insulation film to our windows to keep the cold out and heat in. If we need extra insulation, this is the time of year we normally add more. We involve the kids by making a game of checking doors and windows for leaks that need to be sealed or blocked. Whichever child finds the most leaks wins a prize. You would be amazed at how many leaks can be found around doors and windows when a prize in involved. As our family has gone through the winterizing process each year, adding things as necessary, we have consistently seen energy saving through finding leaks in doors and windows. Fixing these leaks is a cheap and easy winterizing job for our family to do together, and goes a long way towards conserving energy in the frigid, northern climate where we live.
