Bing: Our School Needs Blog Tour

Posted by Jenna | Saturday, October 16, 2010

As many may already know from reading my blog, I taught for a few years before becoming a mom. I have always been passionate about kids' education and know that everything from introducing them to the alphabet to teaching about music and visual arts makes a life-long impact. It starts early on, which is why it saddens me (as a former educator and mom) to see schools across the country having to deal with severe budget cuts leading to supplies and programs being cut. When I was teaching, our school was affected by budget restraints and I ended up buying some of the supplies I needed.

That's why I was happy to hear about Bing and their latest campaign to help support kids' education. They want to help teachers and students by providing them with supplies and financial support to ensure that they have a successful learning experience. Knowing how important education is, they will potentially be giveaway over $1 million dollars through their new 'Our School Needs' program. This competition easily enables students and teachers in elementary, middle and high schools to submit a request for what their school needs most by submitting a photo, essay or optional video.

To enter, teachers and students can create an entry for their school including school needs, photos and a video (optional). Students under 18 will need a parent/guardian or teacher submit the entry on their behalf.

You can learn more about the contest and submit an entry if interested by visiting Bing and checking out this video which explains more.. Until October 22nd, you can upload photos, essays and videos telling Bing what your school needs. There will be three categories: Grades K-6, 7-9 and 10-12. There will be a grand prize winning school who will receive $100,000 and each category will have a first prize of $50,000! That is something that could really help these schools that are facing such hardships.

"I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Bing and received a DonorsChoose.org giving code and gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate."

If you haven't used your giving card yet, please check out my project. It's for guided reading books for my kindergarten class.

    Thanks!
