Celebrating Moms #3: Hot Mama Designs Jewelry Review and Giveaway

It's April now, which means Mother's Day is right around the corner. As I think about this very special day, I am reminded of how grateful I am to have two wonderful children and what a blessing they are. They are such a joy, and I love nothing more than to have keepsakes with their names on them to have with me wherever I go. That's why I was very happy to find Hot Mama Designs Jewelry and their amazing selection of personalized jewelry.

As artists who are intrigued by the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi (the beauty of things that are unpretentious and unconventional), owners Shannon Sunderland and Sahra Alsamarraie's pieces celebrate the one-of-a-kind feeling of the handmade object. Hot Mama Designs is a small jewelry studio in Boulder, Colorado. With much care and attention to detail, they create custom heirloom jewelry that is personalized with names, initials, birthstones and more! All pieces are handmade, 100% sterling silver and 14 karat gold!

It all began in 2003 around the time Shannon gave brith to her first son. She started giving her creations to other new mamas as gifts. After seeing the sentimental value a piece of jewelry with their children's name on it had....she realized this line of work is something really amazing that touches the hearts and lives of those who receive the pieces. With the same passion for jewelry design and business, Sahra joined Shannon and the two have happily worked together ever since.The feeling of connectedness of celebrating mothers and families is what Sahra and Shannon love about their work.

Hot Mama Designs sent me one of their Double Disc Necklaces with Kaelyn and Kaden's names on sterling silver.


As a Mom, I am always proud to wear their names around, so I was very excited when I found out I was going to have the opportunity to review one of their incredible pieces. When it arrived, I couldn't wait to check it out! As I pulled it out of the beautiful little black velvet bag, I was more than impressed!

Typically I am very picky about chains, as there are so many out there and not all are great quality. The moment I saw the 16" chain I was in awe. It was sparkling in the light and so beautiful! Of course, my favorite part about the necklace is the two sterling silver discs though...this is what makes the whole piece! Kaden and Kaelyn's names were so carefully stamped on each disc....it is just perfect! I couldn't be more proud to wear this necklace wherever I go. For $35 each, birthstones can be added to each disc to give it an even more personalized look.

One thing I really appreciate about this piece is the quality. It's strong and will hold up for years to come. I've worn it around my toddler and baby, each who love to grab at any jewelry I wear, and it has not weakened at all. As a Mom of two young children, jewelry that is high quality and able to withstand the wear and tear of daily use is a must!

I also appreciate the fact that it's a necklace I can wear with almost any outfit I'm wearing. It can be dressed up, or dressed down. Having worn it several times already, I've received many compliments. The discs are large enough where people can easily see my kids' names which I love!

I am very happy with this amazing necklace. It's pieces like this that I wear most often and will cherish for years to come!
