What's In The Bible? DVD Review and Giveaway

Posted by Jenna | Monday, March 08, 2010

Unfortunately there are a lot of television shows and movies out there that are not appropriate for kids. I am always on the lookout for wholesome, educational movies and shows that help to teach my children more about the values we feel strongly about in our family. That's why I was very excited to find out that we would have the opportunity to review episodes 1 & 2 from the What's In The Bible? 13-DVD series, thanks to the Tyndale.

When the DVD arrived in the mail, I was very excited to pop it in and see how our 2 year old daughter, Kaelyn, and myself liked it. Knowing that it was created by Phil Vischer, creator of VeggieTales...I had a feeling it would be something the whole family would enjoy. I was right! It's been something Kaelyn has asked to watch several times already. Filled with great music and likable puppets that help to teach young children about God and the Bible is what really sparked her interest.

The copy we received has episodes 1 (In The Beginning) & 2 (Let My People Go). I thought both episodes did a fantastic job of introducing kids to the Bible, learning more about the 'beginning of time' and Moses, and answering questions many of them have had at one time or another. I thought it was neat how easy it makes it for kids to learn more about important people in the Bible and the lessons we should take from each of their stories. The animation was also very well done. Kaelyn doesn't stay interested in most television shows or movies, but she was glued to this for quite some time.

Overall I was very pleased with What's in the Bible? and the message it shares with those who watch it. Although Kaelyn really enjoys it, I think it will be a couple of years before she takes more from it and the lessons it teaches. It's a little bit fast paced for a 2 year old. That said, it's not often that she watches TV, but when she does I'm happy to know that there is a wholesome option out there that will help her learn more about the Bible. Right now it might only be through songs and humorous puppets, but down the road I have a feeling it will continue to be a great resource that she will learn more and more from.
