Gears! Gears! Gears!® Motorized On the Move Building Set ~ Review

It's been cool and rainy many days over the past couple of weeks. That has meant lots of indoor time for the kids and I. My older two tend to get bored easily and like when I plan different activities and crafts for us to do. I always keep my eye out for fun games and other activities to have on hand for those days when we're indoors and want something fun and educational to do and know I can always turn to Learning Resources for just that!

When the Motorized On the Move Building Set arrived, the kids were really excited to check it out.

The set includes a tethered motor, hand control with a forward/backward switch, end connectors, wheels, propeller, gears and more!

Meant for ages 6+, I knew this would be right up Kaelyn's alley. She loves to build things and enjoys open-ended play of any kind. Kaden who is younger, also wanted to help out. It was fun to work together and was great to share that quality time with my kids.

I love that there's an activity guide which shows step-by-step pictures of how you can make one of three exciting models: a race car, airplane and a repositionable motorcycle. We've had a lot of fun making them, especially the race car. It does take some time, but it's fun to see the kids' minds working as they create, problem solve and follow directions.

 

Once the race car was put together, we were all excited to see how it would work with the motor and hand control. The kids were tickled to make the car go backward and forward with the touch of a button. It was fun to see the smiles on their faces as they realized the car they built actually moved!

  

This set definitely takes mechanical reasoning skills to the next level by designing and constructing motor-powered vehicles. It's fun for kids, and adults! It's nice to have some ideas in the activity guide, but I also appreciate that the sky is the limit as to how these gears can be configured. This is what the kids love most! They can create and use their imaginations, and in the end come up with a totally new and unique looking motor-powered vehicle.

I would definitely recommend Gears! Gears! Gears!®  Motorized On the Move Building Set from Learning Resources to other families. It's a fun activity to do together, and something that is sure to entertain for hours on end!
