With the bitter cold winters we have here in the Midwest, summer is our time to get outdoors and enjoy the warmth as much as we possibly can. Now that we have a larger yard for the kids to run around and play, I have been keeping my eye out for great outdoor activities they can do together. Of course, one company that comes to mind immediately when I think of high quality toys for kids, is Little Tikes.
Since 1970 Little Tikes has been offering families an amazing selection of innovative children's products that encourage them to get up and be active while playing. Offering everything from baby toys and children's furniture to riding toys and workshops...they have created a line of products that parents can trust and turn to time and time again.

Over the years we've owned several Little Tikes products and have always been impressed with the quality, educational and overall appeal. That's why I was happy to learn we were going to have the opportunity to review one of their great toys for summer...the Little Tikes Big Digger Sandbox!
Features/Benefits:

  • Excavator really works to pick up sand and load the trucks
  • Molded in ramps and roadways in the sand area
  • Lid doubles as a truck ramp
  • Holds 100lbs. of sand (not included)
  • Accessories include: 1-Dump truck, 1-Rake, 1-Shovel, 1-Sand sifter, 1-Sand cup, 2-Characters
  • Recommended for ages 3+

When the Little Tikes Big Digger Sandbox arrived, we were all excited to check it out. Upon opening the box, we found the sand area, lid, and accessories.
I was happy to see that the only assembly required was screwing on the excavator. Once that was complete, we were ready to take the sandbox outside and fill it with sand.

Once we got it outside and the sand put in, the kids were very excited to start playing. As they played, I was checking everything out and was very happy with the quality. It's exactly what I would expect from Little Tikes. It's extremely durable and kid-friendly...something I can tell will last us a very long time!
One thing we did notice was that it was difficult for the kids to both sit in the sandbox and play at the same time. They found it easier to either sit on the edges or sit outside of the box which has worked out just fine.
I love that this sandbox came with accessories like the Dump truck, Rake, Shovel, Sand sifter, Sand cup, and Characters. It made it possible for the kids to start playing right away...creating, pretending and having fun together!

Of course, the most unique part of this sandbox, and probably my kids' favorite is the the construction possibilities. The sand area features a molded in ramp and roadway, equipped with a real working excavator to dig in the sand and load up the dump truck. I have found that Kaelyn and Kaden like to work as a team. She enjoys using the excavator and Kaden likes to drive the dump truck around.

Instead of just driving it around in the sand, which is a lot of fun for him...he also enjoys the fact that the lid doubles as a ramp to drive the truck down and up on as well. I love this feature too! It's great being able to extend the play area for the kids, while still having a lid to keep the sand dry when we're not using it.

And, even when the lid is on...the sandbox can still be used as a construction zone for the truck.

The kids have absolutely loved this construction themed sandbox! It has allowed for hours of active play for the two of them as they create sand castles, roadways, and so much more. I've enjoyed watching as they use their imaginations and have fun pretending. The extra features of this sandbox are what really set this sandbox apart...I appreciate that it's all included so that parents don't have to go out and buy that separately.

We've been having a blast with this fun sandbox. Along with the quality, the construction fun can't be beat. I would definitely recommend it to families with young children.
