Although toys with batteries, music and lights are fun for a time...the ones that really seem to hold Kaelyn's attention the longest are more simple. It's the toys that allow for open-ended play and the freedom to create and use her imagination that keep her coming back again and again to explore, discover, problem solve, etc. I always keep an eye out for toys like this, which is why I was thankful to come across K'NEX.
The most innovative and fastest growing construction company today, K'NEX is the next generation of construction sets inspiring creativity, building self-confidence and encouraging interaction among children and parents. Offering an extremely user-friendly website making it easy to search by age, price, theme etc...you're sure to find a selection of toys suited perfectly for the kids on your Christmas list this year.
As I browsed the K'NEX website for the first time, I was instantly drawn to the Sesame Street Collection and couldn't have been more excited to learn we were going to have the opportunity to review the Neighborhood Collection School House Building Set!
When the Sesame Street School House arrived, Kaelyn caught glance of it right away. The moment she saw Elmo she got very excited and was begging to play with it! Of course I couldn't say no, even I was curious as to what this set included and anticipating the fun we would have!
Right out of the box Kaelyn put Elmo and Grover together. It was fun watching her interact with them, asking if they wanted her to build them a school house, etc. What a great addition they have been to this set!
Along with the pieces came a fun 'Play & Learn' activity sheet and additional building ideas. Although we had a great time building the school house and classroom...we have had just as much fun using our imaginations and creating towers, houses and more for our new Sesame Street friends. The booklet gave us ideas, and from there we let our creativity take us wherever we wanted it to go. The open-ended play is something Kaelyn has really enjoyed. Without limits, she is able to sit down each and every time and try new things. I love it!
I really appreciate how simple and easy these blocks are for Kaelyn to use. They're large enough for her little hands to manipulate easily and it's something she can sit down and do on her own or with us. I have had a lot of fun building and playing with Kaelyn and her new K'NEX and have realized just how much educational value they provide. Not only are children given the opportunity to work on important skills like fine motor development, problem solving, hand-eye coordination and sorting...but sitting down with her we're able to count them, talk about colors (she loves to find all the orange ones and stack them), etc.
When we're finished, we simply put the pieces back in the durable cardboard box they came in. I've found this to be a great way to keep them all in one place when we're not playing with them.
We have been very happy with the K'NEX Neighborhood Collection School House Building Set! With 40 parts (including the beloved Elmo and Grover) there is a lot of room for creativity and imagination and it's been a joy seeing what Kaelyn comes up with each time she plays with them. I love seeing her face light up as she creates something new or brings one of the pictures from the idea book to life. I look forward to checking out more from the K'NEX Sesame Street Collection in the future!
If you're looking for a great gift for a child on your list this Christmas, I'd highly recommend K'NEX. They offer a large selection of construction sets for children of all ages that are fun and educational.
