I have always been fascinated by the ocean and the life that lives within it. It's such a remarkable world and one we continue to learn more and more about. I was excited to learn we were going to have the opportunity to review Disneynature Oceans and was really looking forward to seeing what it was like.
Disneynature Oceans comes from the same studio that brought us Disneynature Earth, the #1 theatrical nature film of 2009. I have not seen it yet, but heard it is absolutely amazing! Disneynature Oceans is their latest chronicle - a breathtaking journey deep into uncharted waters of the ocean. It debuted just yesterday, October 19, 2010 as a Disney Blu-ray Combo Pack and 1 Disc DVD by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.
When it arrived I didn't have a lot of time to sit and watch it, but thought I would at least start it to see what it was like (I was very curious). Needless to say, once I started watching, I couldn't stop it. I watched the entire thing (and Kaelyn sat and watched much of it too)! I expected for it to be interesting and informative, but had no idea how breathtaking and stunning this DVD would be!
As I watched, I was reminded how amazing the ocean really is and how beautiful the creatures are that live within it. There are fish and sealife featured in this film that I had never even seen before. It's amazing to watch something and learn the whole way through like I did with this movie. The natural struggle for survival is uncovered, but also shows the tender side too. It was heartwarming to watch as the animals cared for one another and even seeing smaller fish inside the mouths of larger fish...cleaning their teeth, etc. It was truly amazing!I love the way it is presented, as it makes the viewer feel like you are right there swimming along side the fish. There are moments it literally kept me on the edge of my seat. The narration by Pierce Brosnan is fantastic and it is really what helped keep the story going. It was indeed fascinating!
I love the way the DVD ends, with a message of how important the ocean is to us. We depend on the health of the ocean and the life of the ocean depends on us. It's a great reminder to us all that we need to take care of it and in any way we can. In fact, for every disc purchase now through October 25th, Disneynature will make a contribution to The Nature Conservancy to continue preserving coral reefs in The Bahamas.
In addition to the film, the disc comes packed with numerous bonus features including behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with the filmmakers, a Make A Wave Disney's Friends for Change music video and more!
Our family has really enjoyed watching Disneynature Oceans more than once already. It's fascinating and educational. I could see it being a great resource for teachers, as well as one that children at home will enjoy too.
