I have always had very sensitive skin and even struggle with eczema on my arms every now and then. My son Kaden takes after me a lot, and unfortunately has very sensitive skin as well. At 18 months he began having eczema flare-ups and has struggled with it ever since. It seems the longer he has it, the worse it gets and the more it irritates his poor skin. What began just on his arms and tummy, has now began to show up on his legs and even his face. Over time we've had a little success with different creams and remedies, however...wanted to find a more natural approach that would give him relief from the itching, red blotchy skin, etc. Thankfully, that's when I remembered Hazelaid!
The daughter of
Severine Stegner and her husband (Hazelaid business owners), was suffering with severe eczema at a very young age at the time they learned about these necklaces in 2008. They tried them out and within 2 weeks of her wearing it, her eczema was gone!! That was the beginning of their journey with hazelwood necklaces and their online business,
Hazelaid! Helping with so many things such as eczema, teething, acid reflux, heartburn and even headaches...it's no wonder people continue to turn to a natural treatment that doesn't include pumping their bodies (and the bodies of their little ones) full of possibly harmful medicines.
A few years ago, I was introduced to Hazelaid. At the time I did not have a child who was dealing with teething pain or suffering from eczema, so I did not have a reason to test it out. That however, changed once our little guy started fighting eczema at such a young age. Remembering how many things Hazelwood jewelry helps heal (including eczema), I contacted Hazelaid and was thrilled to learn they were going to send us a necklace for Kaden to review.
We were sent the
All Brown Children's Hazelwood Necklace (11 inches).
When the necklace arrived, I couldn't wait to put it on Kaden. I thought the necklace looked a little bit small, however...once I got it on his neck, I couldn't have been happier with the size! The 11 inch size fits him perfectly. It's not too tight, yet not too long where he's going to pull it up and put it in his mouth or anything.
Kaden can be particular about what we put on him, so I wasn't sure how well he would like to wear a necklace. I put it on him though, and got nothing but smiles. He LOVES it! He shows everyone his jewelry and hardly ever wants to take it off. That's great, considering the benefits from the hazelwood necklace come when you wear it 24/7 (even in the shower). It's absolutely adorable!
In case you're wondering how it works, basically the Hazelwood (being an alkaline wood) has the natural property of absorbing and neutralizing the body's acidity through contact with the skin. This is why it's very useful in helping with many different things, including eczema!
We made sure Kaden wore the necklace for a couple of weeks, with the necklace right on his skin (not his clothing) and that he kept it on all the time. Unlike other necklaces, the string used on the necklaces is steel covered in nylon which is very strong and resistant to breakage. In the event that the necklace gets caught or is under too much tension though, the clasp is made to be able to open to prevent choking which I LOVE! It gives me peace of mind that he is safe while wearing it.
After just a a few short days, my husband and I could already see a difference on Kaden's face....and even had family members commenting. His cheeks were no longer red, dry and itchy...they were clearing up completely. Even the eczema he had been struggling with on his neck and behind his ears were hardly noticeable at all. We were thrilled.
We did notice that the eczema on his belly, legs, and arms were not clearing up as quickly however. I emailed the company to ask if it mattered where the necklace was located, that maybe having it on his neck is why the face, neck and ears cleared up because they were closer to the necklace?! They were great to email me back right away and very helpful! They said that the location on the body typically does not effect it, and that the overall PH should lower and influence your entire body. However, in the last year, they have noted that some people have a varied experience with acid reflux in moving the necklace away from their neck and encouraged us to experiment with it a bit to see.
We were happy to do this, and put the necklace around his ankle for a couple of weeks to see how it would work. I was hopeful we'd see the same results as we had with his face, however...we saw very little difference. In talking with the company, it turns out that not all eczema is the same and that the eczema on his legs is probably caused by something other than his face and head which seem to respond to the lowering of his acid levels.
As with all natural remedies, they work differently with every person. Though
hazelwood jewelry helps MANY people with a variety of issues, there are some people they may not work for as well as others. With eczema, Hazelaid has found that approximately 70% of cases find significant relief from wearing a hazelwood necklace. However, there is the chance that the eczema will not be acid based...which is what we've concluded when it comes to Kaden's lower body.
We are however, thrilled that it has worked so well for his face! Unlike the other parts of his body that we could easily cover and try to keep him from itching...his face was a difficult one to protect from scratching. We are so thankful to have found something that's natural and helps keep the eczema away when he's wearing it all the time. While we had the necklace around his ankle, we noticed that his face started to flare up again. It wasn't until we put it back around his neck that it began to clear up. This has convinced us 100% that it is definitely helping some of his eczema problems which is great!
The following are before and after pictures. I apologize the quality isn't better...but the first picture is of Kaden just a few days before he began wearing his hazelwood necklace from Hazelaid. You can see the red cheeks which up close, were very dry. The second picture is of Kaden after wearing his
Hazelwood necklace for a few weeks. As you can tell, his skin really cleared up a lot!
As I said, some eczema is acid based and can really be helped by hazelwood (which we've found with Kaden's face). However, if it's not acid-based then it won't do a whole lot, but still has many other health benefits including...helping with arthritis, teething pain, acid reflux, heart burn, ulcers, acne, cold sores, and even migraines!
We have been really happy with the results we're seeing with Kaden's hazelwood necklace, and actually are getting ready to order him more this week. We have been watching the inside of the wood for darkening and can see that it has darkened rather quickly which means Kaden has high acidity and that the necklace is losing it's effectiveness. For children with less acidity in their bodies, it can last up to 6-12 months. We will definitely continue getting these necklaces for Kaden, and will be recommended them to others as well. It's a great all-natural, organic, and safe product for babies and adults.
