The
Centers for Disease Control recommends that adults between the ages of 18 and
64 get 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise per week. The CDC further
recommends that adults perform two weekly sessions of strength training,
consisting of two to three sets of eight to 12
repetitions working all the major muscle groups. That sounds like a lot of
exercise to fit into a hectic schedule, doesn’t it?
Find Time for Fitness — Even When You’re Busy {Guest Post}

Well, the good news is that you don’t have to do it all at
once! You can break it up into manageable chunks of time — as few as 10 minutes,
three times a day and five days a week is enough! When you break up your
exercise periods into smaller chunks, it’s easy to find time in your schedule
for fitness. You can find time for fitness by taking the stairs, cycling to
work, walking a dog, parking further from your destination or even by using
your daily chores as a chance to elevate your heart rate. Let’s take a closer
look at squeezing fitness into a busy schedule.
Your average day is probably already filled with
opportunities for exercise that you just haven’t noticed. Do you normally take
the elevator at work? Take the stairs instead! Park a little farther from the
office, or get off the bus a stop early to squeeze in a few minutes of walking
time.
On your breaks at work, do exercises at your desk. Do leg
lifts while seated in your chair. Brace your hands on your chair arms and use
your arms to slowly lift yourself out of the seat. Stand up and do neck rolls,
quad stretches or hamstring stretches. Take a brief stroll around the office if
you get the chance.
Shopping trips and other errands are also full of
opportunities for exercise. When you go shopping, park at the back of the lot —
those minutes you spend walking to the store count toward your weekly fitness
goals! Take an extra lap inside the store, or use a basket to carry your
shopping if you’re only picking up a few things. If you have an appointment,
arrive a few minutes early and use the extra time to walk around a little
before you go inside.
If you have a dog, walking is a great fitness activity for
both of you. Taking your dog on a walk keeps you both happy and healthy. Even
if you don’t have a dog, you can still make time for a walk or a bike ride early
in the morning or after work. Or you could do a good deed and offer to walk a
neighbor’s dog.
Get the whole family in on the fun: Play catch with your
kids or go on a romantic hike with your partner. Family outings are a great
opportunity for fitness. Swimming, skiing, ice sledding, parent-and-child yoga
classes or playing at the park are just some of the possibilities.
Even if you don’t have time for an outing, you can still
make time for exercise at home. Walk in place while watching television, or buy
a set of small hand weights and use them for strength training while you watch
your favorite programs. Even getting up and walking across the room to change
the channel the old-fashioned way can make a difference.
Household chores are wonderful opportunities to get some
exercise, especially since many chores are a little bit strenuous anyway. Mop
your floor, scrub your shower or vacuum your carpets at a faster pace to raise
your heart rate and log some aerobic exercise minutes toward your weekly goal.
Yard work is another great way to wedge some exercise time
into a tight schedule. Do you like to garden? Raking, hoeing, digging, weeding
and cultivating can all become aerobic activities if you do them at a brisk
pace. Mowing the lawn with a push mower is also an excellent workout,
especially if you have a big lawn! The best part is that many of these
activities also double as strength-training exercises, since they require you
to use the major muscle groups in your legs, back, arms and shoulders.
Making time in your schedule for exercise doesn’t have to be
hard, even if you’re busy. Remember, you don’t have to work out for hours and
hours to feel the benefits. Just two and a half hours of aerobic exercise per
week and two sessions of strength training exercises is enough. By breaking
your exercise time up into manageable pieces, you can easily find all the time
you need for fitness.

**The products for this review/giveaway were provided by Veestro. All opinions are my own.
As a busy mom of 3, there are those days when I just don't feel like making a big meal. This time of year especially, our family spends a lot of time outdoors making it difficult to find the time (and energy) to cook up healthy, delicious meals each night. That's why I started preparing freezer meals, and although I do like the convenience once it's all done, it still takes a lot of time to prepare. I'm always looking for ways to make meal time more convenient, while still allowing me to put healthy, yummy meals on the table for my family. That's why I was thrilled when introduced to Veestro!
With the convenience of fast food being so quick and easy, siblings Mark and Monica found it difficult to make healthy food choices. Not wanting to compromise nutrition for health any longer, they headed to the frozen food aisle which changed everything. One look at the backs of frozen meal boxes made them realize that they were loaded with ingredients they couldn't even pronounce. There was a need for frozen options that fit into their new commitment to whole foods and plant-based nutrition, so they teamed up with a world class gourmet chef and created a healthy, affordable, delicious vegan frozen food line.
Veestro makes healthy frozen meals that are made from scratch, using the freshest organic, non-gmo, whole foods ingredients. They ship anywhere in the US, and the best part is that the food comes frozen so you can have it in the freezer for those nights when you're just too busy (or too tired) to cook! Simply heat and enjoy!
As a busy mom Veestro seemed like the answer I've been looking for, for those nights that I'm just to busy to make a big, healthy meal for my family. I was thrilled when contacted by the company and asked if we'd like to review a variety of their wholesome frozen foods.
We were sent the following: Veggie Lasagna, Tofu Scramble Chocolate Chip Cookies, Kids Veggie Burger, Chicken Nuggets Appetizer, Cauliflower Soup, Mediterranean Skillet, Linguini Bolognese, Tortilla Soup, Veggie Burger Patty, Lentil Meat Loaf, and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cake.
I couldn't help but wonder how good these meals would be. I'm not a huge fan of the freezer meals at the store, so I wondered how these would compare. Thankfully, I've been very pleased and far more impressed than I expected!
I was impressed right from the start when the meals arrived. Each product was vacuum-packed and fresh frozen using the latest technology to optimize freshness. Everything arrived in an insulated shipping container, lined with 100% recycled EPS foam and packed with dry ice to keep the meals completely frozen.
I love to try new foods, so the variety we received was very much appreciated. As I looked over the Veestro frozen meals, I found that each one contained a label with a clear set of instructions for preparation as well as a list of ingredients. So, not only are Veestro meals convenient since they are already made, but the instructions are laid out right before you to make preparation a quick and easy!
I was excited to try out some of the foods and the picture below is just a glimpse of some of them! I found that the products can be microwaved, boiled or thawed in their original packaging. The fact that the meals arrive fully cooked is also appreciated as it makes preparation simple and quick!
In no time at all I've been able to put meals on the table. It's been nice to have such a nice variety to choose from. The kids have really enjoyed the Chicken Nuggets Appetizer and Chocolate Chip Cookies, while I've really been impressed by meals like the Veggie Lasagna, Linguini Bolognese, and my favorite...Tortilla Soup!
The first time I started heating up the food, I was amazed with the delicious aroma that filled the kitchen. It smelled like a restaurant! And the great news is...this wholesome food is just as amazing as it smells! It's very flavorful, fresh, and best of all...I love to know that we're enjoying all natural, preservative-free food that is high in protein and fiber, and packed with nutrients! All Veestro products are vegan, produced in a completely meat-free, fish-free, dairy free, egg-free facility.
Veestro is dedicated to providing healthy, affordable, delicious vegetarian meals and our family has been very impressed! They have proven to me that I don't have to sacrifice taste and convenience for health-conscious, nutritious food.
For those days when you're just too busy or too tired to cook, I would definitely recommend Veestro to other families, especially moms! We have found their food to be flavorful, convenient, and best of all...natural and free of preservatives!
If you're looking for delicious and easy healthy meals for your family, shipped fully cooked and ready to defrost, heat and enjoy...then do I have a deal for you...

Ubooly ~ An Educational Toy & App for kids! Review & Giveaway

**I was provided with product to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.
As I've mentioned in the past, all three of my kids enjoy playing with my iPhone. Whether it's to watch a cartoon, or play one of their many games...it is a favorite "toy" in our family. Wanting my kids to learn while having fun, I am always on the lookout for fun, educational apps that they can use...even better when it includes a cute plush toy to go along with it! That's why I was excited to learn more about Ubooly.

Downloading the Ubooly App and getting everything set up couldn't have been easier when it arrived. And Kaelyn could hardly contain her excitement!! Ubooly can be personalized to your child's interests (colors, favorite foods, etc) and refers to your child by his/her name. Kaelyn was tickled that Ubooly actually knew her name!
Once Kaden is a bit older, I appreciate that Ubooly can be personalized to more than one child. When the time comes I will simply add his name in and customize his personal information. Then, when one of them wants to play I can just switch the name from an easy to use drop down menu.
As I said, getting it set up was super easy, and I was impressed as I looked through the Ubooly Lab. There are so many fun topics for kids to do and learn about with Ubooly including alphabet, counting, teeth brushing, Spanish and more! Parents simply purchase credits and unlock these fun packs for their kids to engage and learn with. I appreciate that parents have full control of customizing their child's playtime with the Ubooly Lab. It's very easy to navigate and use.
Kaelyn has used the Ubooly app on its own, but most of all...she enjoys using it with the adorable plush Ubooly toy!
It simply slips right into the Ubooly plush toy.She especially likes it when Ubooly asks her to throw him up in the air. :)
Ubooly's little voice is absolutely adorable too. My favorite feature are the fun learning packs, especially the ocean. With summer just around the corner, Kaelyn has been really intrigued with the Ocean and enjoys learning more from Ubooly. She enjoys following directions as he tells her to put on her pretend SPF sunblock and get ready for a trip to the ocean. She's learning so much and doesn't even realize it.
One of her favorite things is that as she engages with Ubooly and complete content packs, she is rewarded with coins that allows her to buy accessories to further customize Ubooly. Our Ubooly for instance, currently has glasses. :)
Overall, we've been happy with Ubooly and really have no complaints. He's a lot of fun and Kaelyn sure enjoys her new pet that plays with her and teaches her so many fun facts and skills. Some key features we love about Ubooly are:
- lessons can be added with just one click
- can be personalized to child's interests
- lessons are written by top educators
- children stay fit and active while learning
- Ubooly can be used as the app alone or along with the plush toy
- parents receive email progress reports
Buy It: You can purchase the Ubooly toy for $29.99 at ToysRUs.
Win It: Also, one very lucky A Mom's Balancing Act reader is going to win an Ubooly Pet of their own (valued at $29.95) AND a $30 credit to the Ubooly Lab! Simply enter the Rafflecopter giveaway below.

Guest Post ~ Kid-Friendly Las Vegas: What to Do With Your Family in Sin City
Posted by

Monday, June 10, 2013
Most marketing portrays only the things adults can do in Las Vegas, but
the truth is this city has plenty to do for families. From elaborate amusements
like themed roller coasters to performances by internationally
recognized performers, your family is sure to find something all members will
enjoy.
You’ll find Las Vegas hotels that cater to families
and ones that have minding services for little ones while their parents go out
to enjoy themselves as well.
Casinos for Kids
While no one under the age of 21 is allowed
to gamble for money in Las Vegas, gambling for toys and tickets is not
prohibited. Businesses like the huge carnival-themed Circus Circus casino chain
(there’s one in Reno, Nevada, as well) have been entertaining children, teens
and families for decades. Inside, watch circus acts, play midway games like
ring tosses and dart championships, and come out with a fluffy stuffed animal
or other toy for winners.
Thrill Your Family With Rides
While minors are not allowed to enter the
casino “floor,” where the gambling takes place, it’s perfectly permissible to
enter the casino and explore the elaborate themed halls of shopping,
restaurants and entertainment. Many of the casinos have built attractions to
appeal to the child in us all — like the roller coaster at New York-New York,
which thunders through the roof of the casino. There’s also the Stratosphere,
the iconic tapered tower at the north end of the Strip. Visitors can ride up more
than 1,000 feet to get bird’s-eye views of the city and can take part in a spinning
ride called the “Insanity” or a plunging ride called the “X Scream.”
Circus Circus also has the “Adventuredome,”
where more rollercoasters and other thrill rides can be found.
Make Mealtime Fun at a Themed Restaurant
Las Vegas’s love of themes doesn’t stop at
its glitzy casinos. The city has a huge assortment of themed restaurants for
families to try. The Rainforest Café at the MGM Grand offers a jungle dining
experience with waterfalls and a chance to “meet” jungle creatures. It features
a kid’s menu. There’s also singer Jimmy Buffet’s chain Margaritaville for a
Caribbean feel and the Sugar Factory at Paris Las Vegas.
Have a Wild Time at Animal Exhibits
Learn more about wild animals at some of the
city’s animal-themed businesses and exhibits. The Shark Reef Aquarium at
Mandalay Bay features a host of sharks and other marine animals. Part of the
visitor experience is walking through a clear underwater tunnel and watching
the sharks swim overhead. There’s also the free big cat exhibit at the MGM, as
well as Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage.
Catch a Show
There are many family-oriented performances
happening nightly in Las Vegas, including acrobatics, magic shows, singers, theatre,
dance and comedy skits.
The Cirque du Soleil has on-going permanent
shows at several locations in Las Vegas. Their spellbinding performances are
available every day, so there’s no excuse to miss one. For magic, you can see
international stars such as David Copperfield at the MGM Grand or Criss Angel
at the Luxor Theater. And, if your kids decide they want to try their hands at
some of the illusions presented in the shows, the city has plenty of magic
shops selling tricks and demonstrating how to use their products.
Lake Mead
A fun daytrip from Las Vegas is nearby Lake
Mead, the largest reservoir in the United States. It offers opportunities for
boating and other water sports and can be visited as part of a tour or with
your own vehicle. Rent a car in Las Vegas or sign up for a tour that includes boating
and a dinner cruise on the peaceful lake.
