Classic Fairytales with a Modern Twist: my1Story Books For Children ~ Review & Giveaway

My 4 year old daughter absolutely loves when we read to her and tell her stories. I cherish this time we get to spend together, but often think twice before sharing a favorite fairytale or story. Between the once upon a time and happily ever after, it seems most classic fairytales are filled with hardship, cruelty and evil. I want the types of stories Kaelyn can learn from and enjoy. That's why I was excited to learn about My1story books, created by two former Disney executives

My1story is a fun, entertaining collection of the world's most renowned children's characters and stories. With new animation, story lines, activities and more...My1story has made it their goal to win back the hearts of children around the world...both those who have forgotten or never heard of these classic characters before. It also reaches out to adults who have fond memories of storytelling and fairytales growing up.

Each storybook introduces classic characters already familiar in the fairytale world, but in a new way. They have been made over to be lovable and never scary. For instance, the big bad wolf is now a mischievous but approachable wolf cub or in Jack & the Beanstalk, Beanie is still a giant, but a young, small, friendly one. Characters share and care for each other, making sweet dreams possible every time you hear the story.

When I learned about My1story, I was really excited. At 4 years old, Kaelyn is at an age where she scares easily...especially when it comes to the things she reads or watches on television. I love that the idea behind My1story and the fact that it makes it possible for children to still enjoy the same great fairytale characters as we did growing up, without the cruelty and evil. It's something I knew she would absolutely love, which is why I was thrilled when asked to review a couple of the their books.

We were sent Jack and the Magic Beans and I Love Cake.

The review samples we were sent were smaller than the actual books being sold and were softcovers. The books sold on Amazon will be 10"x10" and hard cover. It was a great way to get a feel for the story lines as well as the beautiful illustrations.
I love the two stories that were sent to us, as these are two stories I remember hearing growing up. As I began reading them to Kaelyn, she was all ears. She loved looking at the brightly colored pictures while I read the stories to her. I was happy to see that the text was simple. This helps to keep a young child's attention. I can see why the recommended age for these books is 3+, but even my 2 year old loves them! These are stories that children (and adults) of all ages can really enjoy.
Lil' Riding Hood & Wolfie in I Love Cake is probably Kaelyn's favorite. The story is about a little girl who has a homemade cake for her Grandma. Wolfie can't resist cake and he runs to Grandma's house before Lil' Riding Hood gets there. The classic tale continues on course, but with a happy ending of friendship, the importance of sharing and no scary parts at all. I loved it even better than the original...and Kaelyn must have too, as she asks to read it over and over. She enjoys reading it to her little brother too!

Kaden really likes Jack's Beanstalks in Jack and the Magic Beans. I thought it was a really cute story as well. A young giant named Beanie has fun with his new friend Jack and stuffed toy Goosy. On his way down the beanstalk Jack learns an important lesson about taking something without permission. All ends well and another beanstalk adventure awaits.

Not only are these stories upbeat and lovable, but they also teach great lessons as well. I love when my kids read a story and instead of hearing about evil characters, they learn about important lessons like sharing, etc.

I have enjoyed these books even more than I thought I would, and so do the kids. These are definitely books that I would recommend to anyone with young children. If you're interested in learning more, be sure to check out their website at myfirstory.com. You'll find charming music, sound effects, page turning books and a bit of pixie dust when moving the mouse. It's really a lot of fun for all ages. There are games, videos, a gallery and other fun things awaiting preschoolers and their parents.
