Baby & Mommy Must-haves Event #9: Safe, Non-toxic Paint ~ Mythic Paint Review & Giveaway

It wasn't until I was pregnant with our first child that I became more conscious of the products we used in our home. Whether it's cleaners, the foods we eat, or something else...I have made it my goal to try and choose more environmentally friendly and natural options so I'm doing what is best for the health and safety of our growing family. That's why I was very excited when introduced to Mythic Paint!

When we moved into our house, Kaelyn's room was the one that most needed a makeover. It was painted with fun stripes and bright colors, but we were looking for something that was one color and matched her furniture and decor better.

Before

Mythic was kind enough to send us a color deck which had all of their wonderful paint colors there for us to see. It was so nice to see them in person and not just online, so I could see the true color and compare them to Kaelyn's bedspread. I was so impressed right off the bat...there were SO many colors to choose from. No matter what a person is looking for, they're sure to find a shade and finish that suits their space perfectly. There are actually 1,232 colors in both interior and exterior finishes to choose from. Wow!! Not only that, but they can mix any color from any competitor or any imagination...all you have to do is ask.

We wanted to go with something fun and cheery, and with Kaelyn decided that the green color, Calista would be exactly what we wanted! When our Mythic Paint arrived, I have to admit I couldn't help but wonder what the quality would be like. I knew the paint was zero-VOC, Zero-carcinogenic latex paint and even has a Zero-VOC colorant system that maintains zero-VOCs, but what would the quality be like? Would it look beautiful and cover well? Or be dull and thin? We couldn't wait to find out!

Shortly after receiving our Mythic Paint, my husband painted Kaelyn's bedroom. Being pregnant, had this been a regular latex paint...I would have left the house until the painting was done. However...since we were using a non-toxic paint like Mythic, I felt completely comfortable sticking around and even hanging out with the hubby while he was painting. In fact, unlike other paints...Mythic Paint doesn't even have a warning label because their paint doesn't contain anything that you need to be afraid of!

In 2007 an industry leading, independent consulting and testing laboratory service actually performed a side-by-side comparative test between Mythic paint and other leading paint brands. Focusing on thickness, sheen, sag resistance, flow and leveling and gloss...it was found that Mythic Paint was equal to, if not better than competitors. I wondered if we would find the same thing to be true. Well, we did! My husband and I were both impressed with how well the paint rolled on. It wasn't too thin and and definitely had great coverage! We were going over very dark colored paints, but didn't find that we had to use any more coats of paint than we would have with a traditional latex paint. I was so thrilled! The quality definitely exceeded our expectations and seemed just as good, if not better than other paints we've used in the past.

Being pregnant, I'm very sensitive to smell and although the paint did have some odor, it was minimal and was not a chemical type of smell that other paints have. The low odor that it did have, went away very quickly which was definitely a breath of fresh air.

Once the painting was done, we were able to stand back and admire the beauty of the color we chose. The color deck was very accurate and gave us the exact color of green we were hoping for! We still have more decorating to do in Kaelyn's room...but we couldn't be thrilled with the outcome after using Mythic Paint! Not only does it look great, but I have peace knowing that she is not sleeping in a room painted with paint that could leak toxic gases.

After

We were so happy with our Mythic Paint experience that we're already talking about the next room we want to paint so we can order more!
