You are an angler, a fishing enthusiast. You always dream of being out on the river, or the lake, or on a boat at sea. Rod and reel in hand, waiting for that bite that could be the big one, or the big one that got away. Sometimes it’s just not possible to go out there. So you pass by the usual tackle shops, those stores you swing by to buy your tackle and other fishing stuff. And yet, there are still times that even this is not possible. So you load your iPhone with all the fishing apps that you can find.

1 Animated Fishing Knots

The Animated Fishing Knots app makes it fun for you to learn about tying knots. Each of the 21 knots featured, from the Palomar to the Trilene Knot, has its own video, a finished knot picture, and a description for the knot’s use. Learning how to tie them surely wasn’t this much fun.

2 Fishing Calendar Version 2.4

Fishing Calendar is an app that helps you plan your fishing trips, based upon information on the sun and the moon as to phases. With your current location as basis, the app displays the best fishing times. It allows you to quickly choose those days and times when fishing is most favorable for success. Plus, it stores your catches with photos, sizes, weights, and locations – for posterity or for bragging rights. Fishing Calendar saves your time by targeting fish when they are most likely to be around, days, months and even years in advance.

3 Find Fishing Spot

The Find Fishing Spot is a fishing venue search app based on your location and GPS. Among others, it features locations of the closest carp or fly fishery as well as the nearest sea boat charter service or tackle shop and directions from your current location to the fishing venue.

4 Tropical fish and invertebrate

The Tropical fish and invertebrate app is your complete guide to tropical freshwater and saltwater fish and invertebrates. This database includes photos and descriptions for some 1,740 freshwater fish, 140 freshwater invertebrates, 170 saltwater fish, and 20 saltwater species.

5 Andy's Fly Fishing Knots

Intended for the fly fisherman, Andy’s Fly Fishing Knots app includes advanced and high quality knot illustrations. Each is presented in easy-to-follow, step-by-step knot illustrations from the reel to the hook.

6 Fish Records

The Fish Records app lets you know the fish that you catch and how to report it. It allows you to identify fishes by pictures and by description, and what sizes and which individuals hold the current records. This app doesn’t let you get caught not knowing what to do when you do catch that fish of a lifetime.

7 WFN Fishing Log

The WRN Fishing Log app records and shares your fishing trips. Among others, it stores information on your catches as to gear used, species, weights, lengths, locations, and dates.

8 Flick Fishing HD Version: 1.5

The Flick Fishing app is a game app where fully animated ‘living’ environments combine with intuitive real-life controls to create the best fishing game. Game play involves you flicking your wrist to hook a fish which you need to reel in, careful not to snap the line and lose the fish. The fishing simulation features 8 fishing locations, 9 types of bait and tackle, 12 tournaments, and dozens of unique fish species.

9 Entertainment Fake a Fish

The Entertainment Fake a Fish app lets you appear as a great angler getting a great photo with a record catch fish, without ever having to go fishing. You can show everyone what a master angler you are when you post those pictures. The app is easy-to-use – it lets you load a photo and then add a fish to it, all the while controlling the size, rotation, and placement of the fish.

Fishing is supposed to be a relaxing hobby. It’s just you, the water, and the fish. These apps only show how caught up in the hobby you are, and no doubt makes your iPhone one of the great cell phone deals around for your fishing buddies.
